42,510 baht or 3,510 baht higher than Lazada.  For me, I am not sure that Apple would be more responsible for the shipment than Lazada would be, so I wouldn't want to waste 3,510 baht.

Don't waste 39,000 thb either. Just get an Android instead. I'm working with guys who use Apple phones, I just cannot understand it.

Well my wife prefer Apple phones.

Okay agreed that paying that much for a phone is a bit crazy, so she got a S6extra (I think the model is?) for around 15k and she loves it.

I think on tablets; IOS gives a much better user experience than Android  and I might well reverse back to an Apple tablet again. Not too many apps in the Goggle store are well suited for tablets but more aimed at phones.

Hmm going off topic now, sorry

I need to buy a birthday present for someone in thailand, was planning on bringing it with me from the UK, but it looks like that trip will have to be put on hold.

So I am looking to buy an iphone 8 plus or x, depending on price, has anyone got any experience buying online from www.powerbuy.co.th ?

I will he sending to pai, mae hong son but buying using UK bank card.

If this site isnt the best, anyone got any recommendations?

Genuine iPhones will not be discounted wherever you buy, so the guarantee becomes the most important. This means that if buying online the first choice should be the Apple Store, as you can be 100% sure that you are getting a genuine iPhone. There are clones that are not iPhones and don't run iOS, you have a danger of paying for an iPhone but getting one of those. The other possibility is that if not bought from an Apple dealer or Apple that Apple will not honour the guarantee as it could be a second or phone that should not have been sold for some other reason.

the Apple Store Thailand is the place to go

Genuine Apple products with the full guarantee are never discounted below the Apple price. The only way to get a cheaper one is the Apple refurb section of the Apple Store. You will not know if you wasted 39,000 Baht until it has a fault, if it does, and find you don't have support if it isn't covered. Just not worth the risk.

I have used a UK credit card to pay for goods purchased on Lazada.

A similar attempt using a link to Powerbuy resulted in a fraud attempt on the card.

For anybody concerned about possible fraud for any purchase, get a pre-paid card, load it for the amount you want to spend and use that. I've always used mine for online purchases and never had a problem.........plus It's impossible for fraudsters to gain access to your details and use them if funds are not available.

No, not paranoid. Once bitten........

My Skype account was hacked into, passwords changed etc and £150.00 of credit bought and used over less than 24 hours while we were away for the weekend. I did have an email from Skype telling me about the password change but didn't see it until we got back. I'd forgotten to remove my card details from Skype after buying a previous top up.

Skype wasn't interested. A lesson learnt.

There is no lesson to learn when you compare apples and oranges

It's perfectly safe to use a visa or mastercard online and avail of their own buyer protection policy and i also have experience asking them to reverse fraudulent charges

If you have had experience reversing fraudulent changes do not understand how you can say it is perfectly safe - it obviously is not.  That you can normally obtain refund does not change that - you have to work for it (and in the case of a Thai account it can be very hard) and everyone is paying the price with higher overhead charges.  Thailand has been very sloppy in such matters - read the confidential materials reused as paper bags for fast food.  The warnings to never let card out of sight have a basis in fact.  Many ATM's have been compromised over the years here.  We may be into a new era with chip cards but it is still a bit Wild West and attractive to many with less than 5 star motives; of all nationalities.

You biggest issue could be getting the online payment to work using a UK card for delivery in Thailand, the only real way to find out is to try it.

I tried to buy something online from PowerBuy's website a couple months back, they wouldn't accept my U.S. credit card, and when I got into it with them, I was informed their online payments system currently doesn't accept and/work work well with non-Thailand bank cards.

Ended up paying for the same purchase in-store using the same U.S. bankcard. In-store, no problem whatsoever.

The consumer protection rules that apply to bank cards typically are governed by where the card is issued -- not where the purchase is made.

So, if someone uses a UK bankcard to make a purchase in Thailand, online or in-store, it's typically going to be that person's home country UK consumer protection rules that apply, even though the purchase was made outside the UK. Not the rules for the country where the purchase was made.

Both

I guess from your replies and your successful need to use visa/mastercards "own buyer protection policy" on several occasions you must have been targeted for a lot of fraudulent activity on your cards. Be careful, visa/mastercard might just suspect a problem and give you "special attention".

I didn't say it happened "a lot"

It happened a couple of times in maybe a decade of purchasing but don't the let the facts get in the way of your negative assumptions... ????

Just bought a TV with them early December. No problem.

Even if there are many PowerBuy shops in Pattaya, including the big one on Central Road, I bought online as they have regularly good promotions. I got a 15% reduction on their "normal" online price.

Also paying with a Thai bank card give you another 5% reduction, and you can also use your 1-Card points to reduce the price even more.

I ordered online a Saturday and got the delivery on Tuesday. Fast.

I bought this TCL Smart TV 50" UHD 4K for 11'074 B. Very happy of this purchase.

But he wants to buy an item by CC and have it delivered to a 3rd party address....that's a whole other story and very difficult to do, especially if your oficial CC billing address is in your home country.

There's no problem using a Thai bank card to make online purchases thru the PowerBuy website.

The problem occurs -- problem as in it often doesn't work -- when you try to use a non-Thailand bank card. And that's not because of any block from the card issuing foreign bank. It's because the PowerBuy card processing operation doesn't work well with foreign cards. That's exactly what their financial office told me a few months ago on said subject.

What you really, really need to understand is that the girl wants an Apple.
