Good Car Mechanic Needed

Featured Replies

I have a friend in Chiang Mai who was quoted an exorbitant repair amount by the Ford dealership. Does anyone have a good local mechanic who might be able to give a more reasonable price? Thanks in advance.

Tonn at ProAuto is who you want.....Good english....No double pricing.....Clean, well equipped & staffed.....

I'm retired automotive management.....Years with many other shops tried in the area....

Ford have standard costs clearly visible in their workshops.....they know what they are doing rather than going with somchai spanner to save a few quid

I strongly confirm, Khun Ton, owner of Proauto. Totally professional operations and Khun Ton very knowledgeable about auto engineering, speaks, writes very advanced English, very pleasant man, checks problems well, comes back with photos and quotes, progress photos etc., if needed, prices always reasonable.

Highly recommended.

Disagree vehemently after being involved with them over the years as part of a consulting/training team......But that's a discussion for another time.....

I agree about most of the somchai shops - I can size up the shop pretty quickly.... I do not recommend lightly.....

What they “are doing” is trying to take advantage of customers and make a profit, same as any big business. My old man was the Somchai with a spanner in his own garage a long time ago, but he knew what he was doing and didn’t rip people off.

As an owner of two Fords, Ton at Pro Auto is the place to go.

The Ford dealerships are useful only for delivering the vehicle. After purchase service is utter carp, the mechanics are clueless and the management only care about that moment's baht.

Anybody had Pro Auto do an engine rebuild? I know they are good for smaller repairs.

He did rebuild my Mazda 3 cylinerhead(the valves)for 16 000 baht.Mazda shop did tell me 92 000 baht for a new head.

Somebody had good experience with "major" engine work - not sure what it entailed......

I asked once about an engine/trans swap  to hot rod an old 4x4....I didn't follow through because parts sourcing for the other parts for the vehicle was getting difficult....

Ton had a source for that so I'm sure he's probably got a good referral....

If it's like the engines I've had built in the US a machine shop usually does the actual rebuild....
