I hope this is the right forum. I read Dtac's info and it said if you sign up for a prepaid plan it will automatically extend to the following month if you have enough of a balance to cover it. I paid enough for three months but I kept getting messages that made no sense to me. Finally realized the promotion had not been extended and they were using up all my money on daily charges. So I went to Dtac a few days ago and they said they couldn't do anything because hey had no access to see what I paid. The woman told me to sit down as it would take a long time.

Unbelievable. I stayed at the counter figuring once I sat down they would ignore me. After about 30 minutes a woman, I assume the head honcho of the branch, came over and finally gave me credit for the month remaining.

I had also topped up my phone balance to 120b in case I needed to make a call. I normally use Line. I found out I have a problem in America I need to resolve so I made my first phone call since topping up to 120b. I couldn't do it because Dtac used up all the phone money too. I thought phone and data were two different things.

Anyway, I am going back to Dtac again to see if they will return the 120b to my account. I guess I now know better than to believe their literature and, if I decide to stay with them (probably not), I know I have to go to the office each month on the day of expiration (what a hassle) to renew for the next month. This is an international company and this is the best they can do?

Try the dtac website and log into your sim acct.  You can top up (easy with thai debit card) check transactions etc, pretty simple to use.

On their website there are prepaid plans that you can just put a code in your phone and change plan.  I do this when going remote Thailand and need 3-4 g internet.

Don't know how your contract got messed up but we have 5 DTAC numbers in the family, all of which renew monthly automatically since years, if there is enough money available.

Sent from my SM-A730F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

With zero use any money over my monthly account disappears......I've had months I've been out of the country phone in hand, not tied to any network & the monthly amounts (correctly) are taken but the overages (few 100 baht) are gone too.....

They keep sending messages to top off & get a bonus.....I used to pay over 2 months at a time but the overage winnows away before the 2nd month is due not leaving enough.....Now I just pay my monthly + about 70 baht on the day it's due....Always seems to have a zero balance....

My wife quit using them for the same reason 100-200 paid = gone in less than a week with no calls.....

She's happy with True now.....

It's rare, as a family, if we make over 5-6 calls a month.....Overpaid by 65 baht 6 days ago......

Monthly plan but always getting these top up offers to throw more money in the pot......

Dtac is best one I've been with top up at any 7-11 a 100 bht a month covers it at times if I have made local mobile calls or 50 bht most months and I have 24-7 internet.

All that's required is a permanent 300 bht balance kept topped up. ????

I don't have a Thai debit card and not sure I would trust Dtac with it anyway.

Now that I think about it, I think Dtac has done this to me in the past. But always had enough to last me until I left again.

Now I understand why, when I wanted to put three months money into my account, the Dtac guy said just do 1 month. I thought he was loony as then I would have to make a trek to Dtac on the night of expiration (not always convenient). But I guess he was telling me, without losing face, that the automatic renewal wouldn't work.

Likely little of what is posted here is correct.

All of the networks have plans with codes that allow renewal and codes for the same plan that do not.

So you need to be sure to apply the correct code.

If that is not the issue, the other issue is that some may forget about VAT. So a bundle priced at 100 baht, is actually 107 baht. So a balance of 100 baht will result in renewal failing.

Lastly, DTAC is the only network that sells you a plan to stop you from getting charged for data outside of a package. It costs a mere 30 baht for twelve months and gives you an 'always on' connection of 64 kbps. To apply the package, make sure you have a balance of at least 35 baht and then type *103*55# and then hit the Dial key.

No more data charges when any data package you purchase runs out.

Please post what package you use.     I see nothing on the Dtac site that remotely says anything about a ฿300 minimum balance.    Please help.    And 24/7 internet?    Is that with a smart phone?

You've got me there I have no idea what package it is, the 300 baht balance I keep topped up when they text me saying I've gone over my balance to maintain my internet.

They have text me like now even though I still have a 288 baht balance so I will pay 50 baht at 7-11 and that lasts a month.

To get it I went to our local Dtac shop with my Mrs and my Mrs arranged it for me, it's only 1 mb speed but OK for my use you can pay more and get faster speeds which you can top from your balance if it has enough baht in it.

If you ring the Dtac office they have English speaking staff I found them helpful because I'm useless at using my Android mobile.

What?

"...and they were using up all my money on daily charges".

"I couldn't do it because Dtac used up all the phone money too".

What you mean is that you were using all your money, not Dtac.

"I guess I now know better than to believe their literature..."

I'd guess that you need to read the details of your package more carefully and then change to one that suits your requirements better.

They are promotional ads, that's all, they're not demands!  Call them and tell them to stop sending them and they will.

Because when I visit Dtac they tell me to top up for my phone as well as get an internet package I got the impression those were 2 separate pools of money. But they used the "phone" money when they were charging me for internet activity. I now know better.

Of course they are.....But, my 499.00 monthly plan is paid up & any extra money/overages winnows down.....

Why throw more in?

I have DTAC and never had issues UNLESS I didn't have enough to cover the monthly fee of 450 baht or whatever it is.

also, worth mentioning that those promotions offering you the 20% or whatever when you make a topup, those amounts will disappear automatically within X number of days ( i think it's 30) if not used -- which is every single time for me

As in: you pay 800 baht and get 20% extra (160) then you expect to have 960 baht.. your monthly plan takes 450, you expect to 510 left for next month but.. nope, that 160 will have just disappeared before your second month and then it bounces the monthly plan off and you use all your money.

AKA: if you only use your phone for internet, Line, GPS or whatever then that money has about 99% chance of disappearing before you use it

I think most of the users on this thread should review their packages.

For instance, no one here for the long term should be on a monthly package if on Prepaid.

Why pay 321 baht per month for 1 Mbps unlimited, when you can get a six month bundle for 642 baht?

DTAC has 90/180/365 days packages.

In addition, anyone looking for a new SIM could do worse than; https://shopee.co.th/Sim-dtac-4Mbps-Auto-renew-90days-i.52462243.1747402679

370 baht for 4 Mbps over 90 days, then 400 baht for the next 90 days. Four periods allowed overall. 133 baht per month for unlimited 4Mbps data.

So they need to snap out of it and ask here regularly about the best package.

Don't let inertia keep you paying over the top.

Just one thing to be aware of with DTAC (at least it was this way when I used it) is that you must add VAT of 7% to the price listed so if, for example, you plan is 399 baht, you need to actually have 427 baht credit for them to deduct the 399 baht + VAT of 7%.

428 baht. It's the same with every network...

Sorry, but they, Dtac, did not "use the phone money", you used it by using the internet as part of the package you signed up for which authorised them to charge you!

I already explained why that was a surprise to me. Why was I told I needed to buy both phone money and data money? I got the impression it was because they were separate things that needed separate top ups. I think just language problems. I now understand better how it all works. The impression I got as to what they were saying was not what they apparently intended to communicate. I was never told, nor was there anything in the description of the package, that phone money would be used to pay for data. The was no written mention of separate phone money, which they said I needed.

If everything had been spelled out completely and understandably I would have understood. When I am expert at Thai maybe there will be no misunderstandings.

If it makes you feel better to lay all the blame on me it's ok.

If you don't want to spend the time to understand my point of view I understand. I give you a win.

Don't worry about it.

The Go Plearn pack will stop it from happening again.

to me it's all too complicated,  the codes, etc, .......  whats worked for me is  to call them and cancel the package before I leave , then I can keep some money in the account to keep the phone number, and also I request them to set a future date so the number doesn't expire, as I need it for SMS messages for my Thai Bank.

the packages will auto-expire, if your signed up for one and don't have the  balance amount required,   and then they default to the  pay-by-call  higher rates , which quickly debit the account,  though some of the packages are so complicated  eg  free DTAC to DTAC between 8 and 12 pm  etc , that as I guess you know you can have a 'package' but also be charged  various ways  by phone  call,

my question is  how far  can I extend  my expiry date , if I don't use the phone  for  1 year or so , right now its setup to expire  next  Fall, but not 100% sure I'll be back by then

Up to 365 days. Though you can also extend it whilst abroad once you have International Roaming enabled for the SIM, in order to allow you to receive SMS.

The GO PLEARN SIM works well for me, no internet leakage, but dial-up speeds if you actually use the internet !

If I need data I just add one of the small packs through the APP.

You can extend validity very cheaply.

Up to 365 days in advance. Though you can also extend it whilst abroad once you have International Roaming enabled for the SIM, in order to allow you to receive SMS. You should switch off data roaming, leaving on just GSM.

Then you can extend by;

DTAC  Extend your validity for up to 365 days at a cost of 2 Baht per month.
  1. Press : *113*30*9# for 30 days extension. ... 2 baht
  2. Press : *113*60*9# for 60 days extension. ... 4 baht
  3. Press : *113*90*9# for 90 days extension. ...  6 baht
  4. Press : *113*180*9# for 180 days extension ... 12 baht
