PHUKET: Patong Police are urging motorists to avoid the area where Bangla Rd joins Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd from 5pm to 10pm tonight (Feb 15) while the grand opening of the Central Patong shopping mall is held.

“We expect many people to be in the area to attend the Grand Opening of the Central Patong,” Patong Police Chief Col Anotai Jindamanee told The Phuket News.

“We ask all motorists for their cooperation to be a good host and to avoid the area during this time. This will make it easier for police officers to help many tourists to walk across the road,” he said.

This area already has a natural road block through all tuk tuks and motorbike taxis, waitin in front of Junk Ceylon.

Not enough, now also Central comes tot he same place, fantastic planning, with roads like 20 years ago.

Instead of upgrading and modernizing Junk Ceylon and adding possibly parking space in the city, just another road block

It is possible that JC and Central are owned by different companies. Just possible mind. If that is the case, Central would not want to , couldn't, upgrade JC. Just a thought. There is only a fixed nr of people who shop. Because there is a new shopping precinct, the population ain't gunna increase. Therefore, traffic congestion cannot change, increase.

Absolutely.

And I doubt that they would cooperate.

On the other hand, who can stop you from parking at JC and walk over to Central and vice versa?

Central Group owned by the Chirathivat clan.

JC? Not sure, but it has a BigC Extra.

BigC is owned by the Sirivadhanabhakdi clan.

The Thai sounding name was granted by King Bhumiphol, originally Xuming.

Both xx billion Dollar rich families of Chinese origin.

You will never see a BigC in a Central shopping.

Don't non-motorbike vehicles require a receipt showing a purchase on the same day that you leave??

A purchase gets you free parking for a certain amount of time but you have to track down the security guard with the chop. They are not at all access points from the Mall. Once chopped present the receipt to the toll booth and they should let you through. Sometimes its quicker to just pay the B20 which is no biggy other than to 7-11 lurkers. ????

Personally i will probably park in JC then walk across.

Actually, I think that the Sirivadhanabhakdi family (TCC Group) owns a majority (approx 59%) stake in BigC, which it bought from Casino a couple of years ago. As far as I know, the remaining share is still owned by Central Retail Group (CRG), who were the original founders of Big C.

I noticed that Supersports and B2S closed their Jungceylon shops last year, though of course Robinson's still has the flagship store there, along with a small Power Buy. I wonder how long this will continue?
