A motorbike driver has died after his head was crushed by a truck and trailer yesterday. The trailer diver fled the scene in Udon Thani.

The accident occurred in Kudjab Road in Mueang Udon Thani, North East of Thailand.

Police and emergency responders arrived to find the body of Thai man, later identified as 39 years old Sutin Ngonchalee. Nearby they found his damaged motorbike.

Thirteen years ago I had a very similar accident in Udon - spent two weeks in ICU.

Pickup driver fled. Luckily I was wearing a helmet.

A real fear in many places up country. Having said that, if he turns himself in later then ok... if not, lynching may indeed be an option.

What else is new ?! Standard procedure in Thailand with these criminals, always getting away with the murder, the don’t even have a conscience do they ? For he have any feelings of remorse ? I much dubt that ????

You mean turns himself in later once he's sobered up?

What is it with Thais decamping from scenes? Afraid of being beaten up or seeing ghosts?

There do not seem to be any laws in Thailand, regarding fleeing from the scene of a crime. In the US, this guy would be caught, and locked up for a decade or longer. He would lose everything he owned. Here? If you are caught, it is the same as if you stayed at the scene. Since Thailand has little law and order, most figure it is worth taking a chance and fleeing. Of course it is an act of a coward and a half man. But, many try.

Also, driving a bike of any sort in Thailand without wearing the best helmet you can afford is like playing Russian roulette, with three bullets in the chamber. Not smart. Not wise. An act of tempting fate.

Will be difficult to find him deep down in the murky Udon sea.

Must be the Udon Big Sea.

Years ago a couple I knew were passengers on a Bangkok-Pattaya bus. Bus managed to run over two young girls riding motorcycles. Driver and conductor headed across the adjacent field. Husband asked the wife, what are they doing? She told him that they were "fleeing the scene" just like them and with that she grabbed her husband and flagged down a passing bus. All the other passengers sitting there wondering what was going on.

To be fair, the driver probably doesn't own anything for him to lose.

Maybe only his time and his life.

I'd give you odds that the motorbike operator contributed to his own demise in "motorbike-diseased" Thailand where they are dying like files (45 MB operators/passengers per day).

Why is every poster blaming the truck driver for the accident? No excuse for him to flee the scene but maybe the motorcyclist caused the accident.

Seeing as gambling is often regarded as an obsession here it's not particularly surprising, plus no critical thinking is used.

In the US, just having a fender bender and driving off will get one arrested (perhaps not in all states, definitely where I live).
