Lelipad Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I live in Thailand by 6 years on the basis of a non immigrant O Visa and I have by 6 years the Thai driving licence which is valid for only 1 year, therefore clearly connected with the validity of the Visa. Every year I have to renew my 1 year Visa and only after I can apply for a new driving licence which has the same 1 year validity as the Visa. Is this forum saying that I can get a 5 years driving licence also having only 1 year Visa? Thank you.
Crossy Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Since the longest visa commonly available is 1 year, and many many Thai Visa members have 5 year licences it is of course possible I got my 5 year with only about 50 days of my Non-o remaining EDIT My licence now outlasts my PASSPORT, the nice lady at the licence office suggested that I keep my old PP so they could find the reference easily. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
bino Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Is this forum saying that I can get a 5 years driving licence also having only 1 year Visa? Yes- this is correct. Your 5 year licence will be linked to your birthday, and expire 5 birthdays after you get it. I got almost 6 years validity on my 5 year licence because my birthday is October, and I got the licence in December.
Crossy Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Just a thought, your 1 year licence must have EXPIRED and you must give it to them with the new applicatiopn if you want a 5 year AFAIK No expired licence, only 1 year new licence. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
