I'm installing another water tank for irrigation. The 2000 L tank outlet has a female brass thread. The blue pipe male plastic fitting doesn't screw securely into the brass female section, so I would usually use lots of white tap on the fitting so it doesn't leak.

I was thinking it may be better to try and get a male brass fitting to PVC pipe connection.

I don't recall seeing brass fittings only metal ones.

What do you recon? Try for a brass fitting or (bucket) use more white tape.

What size thread are you talking about?

But for your thinking, get a M/M brass fitting for the tank connection and then a brass F to PVC for pipe connection.

Wrap the thread with tape until its a good hand tight fit then finish off with a fine smear of silicone gasket. Fitting a PVC barrel union after the fitting makes fixing easier should the thread leak.

Or use a tapered stainless nipple and female PVC adaptor.

Thanks.

The threaded hole is about 20 - 25 mm. I only have 1 shop near that could have brass fittings so I'll have a look.

I thinks I"d like to do it this way as the tank is one of those newish, food grade brown DOS tanks, and the PVC male fitting has a hexagonal shape for a spanner and won't screw all the way in as it hits up against the brown outside tank foam (or what ever it's made of).

Good idea. If I can't get the brass fittings I'll do it this way.

I would not use the silicone but get some actual pipe dope for threads. These is some made using teflon

I've got a tube of special silicon for gaskets and LPG fittings. I was going to use this, not normal silicon.
Still no good?

Humm last time I looked brass was metal, usually about 67% copper 33% zink. [emoji846]
Off course the shop sells the tanks with brass threads but no brass fittings for the tank. The brass fittings they do have are many isles away from all the other fittings and with 10 checkers checking your bill and only one cashier it's a shop I don't like.
They have those metal fittings (1% metal and 99% rust) and the brass fittings for anything but the tanks they sell.

Yes and it avoids that annoying drip when you don't wind enough tape. The problem all revolves around the male threads not being tapered or of poor tolerance.

A filler like hemp or pipe string with paste or liquid works best on higher pressures.

As mentioned earlier, converting the connection to male using a tapered stainless or PVC nipple usually overcomes the loose thread woes.

You could try this style IMG_7167.thumb.JPG.4ac87dbdeeb8f1d6b31cba30099f2d36.JPG&key=1abfd0bccd643a8d32a6db9d6bdee85af93d6be61309bda7fe09bc0e7f2316a6

I use two of them and a short plastic hose to connect 2 of my tanks.

Yeah thanks...tried long time ago, but had trouble with the setup.

Them there connectors are the 1% metal ones.....maybe yours are more high class. Kuchinari (my area) is low class....just fairly cheap stuff....though changing.

Just keep winding on the white tape until you think you have enough then half as much again.
