The UK embassy never verified UK degrees. They merely confirmed that the person who wanted the degree verified told them it was real. Not sure if they provide that service anymore. Yeah. The whole thing is unfortunate for the retirees here. My heart goes out to the ones that had to pack up and sell and go home or elsewhere and start a new life at an old age because some sudden knee-jerk policy change. But I do find it hard to blame the foreign embassies for not taking on a ton of more work and manpower to satisfy Thai Immigration demands. And despite the guys hanging around gloating that they have no problem with satisfying the new requirements- it was a nightmare and life disaster for many. 2
Popular Post scoutman360
Come on folks. No need for such speculation. The logic is simple. There were hundreds (if not thousands) of illegal workers, mostly Myanmar, Loa, etc., and big business is furious. Money talks. So it wasn't just an opportunity to do even less for the same money? I can only speak for the UK embassy. Since the Satanic Gordon Brown and Tony Blair partnership withdrew all overseas mission funds to fund their ridiculous ID card scheme, and told them to make their own money selling visas, UK visas have rocketed and Embassy staff are now largely guessing what their function actually is. It took no more than a suggestion to get them to drop the LOI thing, there would be no pressure whatsoever as they couldn't give a rats arse about their overseas citizens.

This has been discussed at length months ago and various people share different opinions. The way i see it, it was a nationalistic measure started by Immigration (ordered by the purged guy himself), to thin the herd a bit. How would you feel if you paid 2,000 baht whatever for a piece of paper that you could use as toilet paper. You'd blame the Embassy for the Immigration not accepting it? You don't see what's going around....crackdowns...bad foreigner....operation x ray...tm 30...tm 28...tm6....reports....checks....regulate foreigners...condominium raids.... and you blame the EMBASSY?
