Short story is that the 1.25 inch blue female to pipe connectors from one manufacturer are faulty. The connectors have a small, hardly visible crack through the casing, which leaks water when installed.

After installing a couple that leaked, I checked supplies in our 4 shop and the connectors all had this fault.

All the shops had this brand, but one shop had a few of another brand that do not have the crack.

Bit hard to see the brand name.

Looks like a batch failure, is the brand and part number moulded in? Can you get a decent photo?

What did the shops say (assuming you pointed out the issue)?

Hi Crossy, like those biros that don't work...checked them and put them back on the shelf.

Will try to get the brand name today, before I throw the jet pump and all connectors over the fence. (Off course the fauly connector is the critical one that screws into the pump outlet. And of course while this is going on now the footer valve won't close, so have to pull up the bore pipes.)

Out in the sun, the new ones is all broke too. I put a mark along the cracks.

ThorNamThai is etched on the pipe next to a logo, so this could be the manufacturer. Also MorOorKor 1131-2635 with another logo.

Other manufactuter is 'no name'.

Looks like 2 different tools setup, jig to make the pipes, so it's a bit of a mystery to me why there is the same fault. I was thinking it could have been a flaw in the plastic, but the crack goes right through from the outside to the thread inside.20190410_071142.jpg20190410_071119.jpg

There are some really poor quality pipe brands kicking around often stocked by small DIY shops.

One of the better quality brands will carry the Thai Pipe logo below.

If your faulty fittings carry this logo contact Thai Pipe Industries

I think that's one of the brands.

Just travelled 200 km to buy some connectors from Global House.

So I'm more confused now as most of their connectors have the same looking fault. The black line ( that looks like a crack) goes right thru the plastic to the thread, but I can't believe all the connectors are faulty as looks like made with 3 different tool setups.

Anyway I had more of an option at Global so bought a brass fitting.

I imagine it is a bit tricky when installing threaded PVC connectors as pipe threads are tapered.
Yes it is tricky and you've got to tighten the connector enough so it won't leak and not tight enough to break it.

Learnt from last time.

There is a lot of water pressure at the pump output, and what started as a pin prick leak developed into a crack.

Anyway, got the correct connector now.

Thai Wadsadu has imo the best service (at least in Pattaya) most small shops have stores from years ago. I

found cracked ones, some of the same size even had different threads..

Lots of hassle as I was building the Aquaponics System for my wife some pieces didn't even fit proper.

In a later stage I only bought at Wadsadu 3 Km away even when only a 1/2" cap was needed.

In Germany I was manager of a builders market for some years and this case looks like too low temperatures were used as it was pressed into the form and was too fast hardened or it has been used the wrong granulate mix and the fittings are too hard hence prone to crack.

We had this experienced a few time.

Thai PvC has the same technology like Marley in Europe and produces to German standards.

Quality of Thai fittings is poor to say the least. I remember there was a leak on the kitchen sink outlet which went undetected for a long time. Usual crap workmanship where the outlet pipe from the sink was merely pushed into the female outlet pipe which was much larger of course, the gap filled with silicone. Unfortunately when I discovered it the floor and rear inside of the kitchen unit was completely rotten away. Now the fun started. I had to first find replacement hardboard. Cut, drill and stain it ready for when I do the job. Not an easy task to find the right color. Next of course I had to remove all the piping and water heater to facilitate the installation of the new floor and back panels. Extremely awkward but I managed. Next I tried to fit back the half inch ball valve/tee piece to the water inlet. It leaked. Removed and replaced again and again probably 10 times using increasingly more and more turns of the PTFE thread tape. All to no avail. OK time to buy a new ball valve and try that. Numerous attempts failed again. Of course I cannot replace the pvc/brass internal female elbow because it is plastered into the wall. Last resort I used a combination of thread tape and silicon sealant. Wasn't hopeful but it did the trick. Not sure how long it will last but keeping fingers crossed. I believe the problem was caused by the female fitting being a parallel thread and the ball valve being a tapered thread. I checked the same two pieces, as new, at the hardware store and could see very clearly they did not match. Screwing the ball valve into the female pvc/brass combo elbow I had so much play on the thread all the way up until until the two mated it was unbelievable. To avoid the re-occurance of the waste outlet leak I fitted a pvc reducer which meant I only had to use a small amount of silicon sealant between the parts. Should now be ok.
