UK parliament very likely to consider new Brexit referendum - Hammond

Recent UK survey on the EU elections showed the Brexit party at 82% with the rest of the votes scattered around .

A BBC report is showing that the Conservative party will be annihilated at the next election with many TM backers losing their deposits .  Staunch Labour members are tearing up their membership cards and joining the Brexit party .  Now TM must be aware of this and so is caught in a corner . At the moment she is in a no win situation , the likes of which have never been seen before in UK politics . She has taken Brexit to the next chapter with collusion from the desperate JC  which will only serve to further damage businesses uncertainty . Behind closed doors talks with the DUP  ( another billion pounds from the public purse  promised ? how can that be legal ? )

So a G/E is remote and a referendum unlikely as both will defeat her .  Only way out for her is for any sort of concession from the EU which may get her over the line , however if she thinks that the general public will forget the last 3 years she will soon see the reality of her and her backers decisions .

The one thing I am unsure of is if a deal were to be made , followed by a G/E could the deal be scrapped by the new government ?

You mean that very limited survey held among the subscribers to one particular newspaper?

Some time ago on this Forum I made the point that if I could ...I would immediately BAN any orange order..hibernian..republican and any other similar organisation from walking up/down any road ANYWHERE in scotland.
I now hope that you will believe me.
Re the English hating snp and their camp followers.
I lived only 5 miles from hampden park in my Glasgow days..and if I was out shopping..going for a pint etc. on the day that scotland were playing it was to an area called shawlands.
There..you saw the infamous tartan army at their worst..urinating on pavements whilst blasting out their " lovely " chants eg..F@uck the English..whilst guzzling their favourite tipple..buckfast.
Also..have a look at some of the snp supporting w/sites.
Utterly disgraceful some of them.
Lastly..not sure that you know this my old mucker seeing that you do month on/off re your work.
A certain alex salmond has been cautioned and charged with the following.

2 attempted rapes
7 attempted sexual assaults
2 attempted indecent assaults.

Yip..a 5 star role model for snp supporters I'm sure.

Hows your mate in the Phillys getting on?

I am not sure that drunk football fans are great ambassadors for any country or people so I think it is unfair to castigate the second largest party in the UK by the actions of some drunkards of whose political affiliations you know nothing. I am not sure which SNP supporting website you are referring to as I don't tend to browse them, but I see plenty bile from unionists as well as independence supporters on twitter. Here, on ThaiVisa, there are frequently anti-Scottish epithets thrown around by people from elsewhere in the UK, the vast majority of which go unchallenged, but I see almost nothing that would constitute anti-English sentiment.

Alex Salmond's case is still under investigation but as far as I know, there was no anti-English sentiment included on the charge sheet.

Are you familiar with the in-out list, the list of 40 or so Tory MPs accused of a large array of sexual offences? Not much has happened about that - hell, they even let back in sexual predators to shore up the PM last month. As for successive Tory PMs protecting paedophiles in order to protect their party - I am not sure that there are many role models in the UK we could point to.

Things with my mate are not so great - he has taken to frequently going incommunicado for days at a time, which gets quite stressful. I do what I can, but it is something he needs to resolve on his own. I will keep you posted.

All histrionics aside, how can we hope to achieve a consensus across the country when we are as polarised as this?

PR & a technological cattle-prod will replace FPTP in the aftermath of this Brexit fiasco & hopefully the English will finally end up with their own Parliament & FM too.

That graph shows England and Wales to be fairly solid - with Scotland and N.I voting differently?

We 'discuss' a lot about Scotland being Remain, that simple map doesn't show the full picture. Scotland's vote is a much smaller proportion of the UK electorate overall. (So why are there so many seats in Parliament - they're way over represented?) The whole of the Scottish electorate didn't all vote Remain either - we can see that on TVF. The maps below give a better representation of what we should be looking at.

And the Scottish Remain vote wasn't a total white wash either

That would be the start, but an independent England would be my preference. We have a lot in common, but there are fundamental differences between the 4 constituent countries that can never be satisfactorily reconciled, which means that each should have full autonomy.

I agree with your synopsis, but not the conclusion.

HOWEVER, as a Brexiteer, I have said all along that if WE want independence, from something we see unsatisfactory, then the people of the home countries should have the same opportunity.

Distorted maps to suit your distorted perception - how apt. Population is irrelevant. Scotland is not a region of England but a supposed equal partner in this so called union of countries. For all your whining about a supposed lack of democracy in the EU, at least EU member states have vetoes there.

In Brexit, Scotland need not have bothered voting. The cost to the public purse could have been spared if our politicians were honest - Scottish wishes are secondary to those of England. But then let's not pretend that we are in a union of nations - let's be adult about it and acknowledge that Scotland is forced to do whatever England chooses to do, regardless of whether it wants to or not.

It doesn't really matter, although I would be sorry to see the Scots leave our nation.

I say this as I can see why they would be fully entitled to hold a referendum on whether to remain a part of the uk  if the uk genuinely leaves.  They would have every right to do so.

But yet again, we're veering off-topic.  This isn't about the Scots.

I could not disagree with you more - the folly of Brexit will impact us all, but the palpable anger at it being foisted upon Scots is very real. Our leaders have been shut out of Brexit all along, but the sad fact is that this is very much about Scots as much as every other person in the UK.

In the last 24 hours, the following threads have been active:

I have commented on one of them. But hey, the opinions of us Scots are getting in the way of proper debate. Sorry about that.

The problem is that every argument for brexit is also an argument for Scottish independence

Scotland is not that important to Brexit, or to the UK as a whole. They’re just like two terriers with a bone. Will not let it go and yap too much for their size.
They had their own independence referendum and decided to stay. They are here for the EU ride too, which is hopefully a short one. If they ever are given another shot at independence, I would vote for them to go. A quiet life and big saving to boot!

I remember Alex Salmond when he was student activist and in this day and age would have been branded a terrorist. He may have cleaned up his act and become quite popular with a younger generation but leopards don't change their spots. Many of the old school would have voted against Alex Salmond, not against independence. Him and the tartan army are hardly representative of Scotland.

Whether people like it or not, the brexit debate will always lead to comments regarding other referendums, the leavers are more than happy to bring up the one held in Ireland. Scotland and brexit have one thing in common, different leaders may have led to different outcomes.
