Pattaya Versus DaNang and the winner is?

Sex is never the problem in Asia, so no need to answer that question coming from the clenched sphincter squad.  The issue is what to do with the other 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day in Vietnam.  I guess you could watch paint dry, or other past-times.  Cheap Charlies will still wax poetic about Vietnam, versus admitting that they can no longer afford to live in a third world country like Thailand.

The other option is to sit beside the lowlife drunkards in pattaya that haven't had a sniff in decades, and can't get a legit lady anywhere else. And lve their golden years wasting away enjoying their retirement eating noodle soup, until the third story balcony looks inviting.  Or sitting across from mikes mall with the derelicts, watching the rats running around, saying where did I go so wrong to be in a place like this.

yes lvely pattaya!

Da Nang uses Uber (or was it Grab) and it was very cheap.  Da Nang has a small but nice stretch of beach with lots of reasonably priced new hotels.  Good restaurants.  Lots of little Japanese female t

Vietnam? no way, when the boy's come to visit cant drag them away from pattaya. Da nang they are scrambling for flights out after a few days, dead as a dodo..Boring and makes sense posters gushing about Vietnam are actually living in Thailand... hmm I wonder why that is ??

With a name like madmen, I can only imagine the circle of friends u hang with, more quality pattaya high end tourists no doubt.????????????????????

I tried Huda Beer.  It was cheap, so I was expecting it to be nasty, but I really liked it, and then started asking for it in places, but it's not widely available.

This made me Google it to find out more, and I saw that it has won a silver medal at the beer world championships.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huda_Beer

I took my own photos of it, but this is a photo from the internet.

The "bia hoi's" are fun and entertaining.  Watching the Vietnamese drink $0.21USD small mugs of draft beer.  That's about 6.5 baht for a small draft beer.  ????

Bia Hoi's are all over Vietnam, including Danang.

In most civilized nations, there is an enormous choice of beer. I am back in the US now, and I walked into a neighborhood liquor store. They have two whole rows of craft beer on the shelf and in the refrigerators. Must have been well over 1,000 different beers. And in Thailand? Chang, Tiger, Leo, Singha and Heineken. If you are lucky, you can find Beer Lao, which is the best of the bunch. Such fabulous mediocrity. When I read about Singha acquiring Santa Fe Steak, it seemed like such a good fit. Incredibly mediocre beer, paired with fabulously inferior meat products. A perfect match.

And a government that is so sold out, so morally bankrupt, that they do everything in their power to prevent establishment from opening and selling local craft beer. The lack of imagination is stunning. I do consider Thailand to be one of the least progressive nations on earth.

I usually walk.

In DaNang, I would walk along the beach.

In HaNoi I walked around the lake.

In Saigon I walked around the park.

Where would someone in their 60s go to find a 'legit lady'?

Some of you have very strange ideas about the available choices of 'life options' for retired men.

That makes no sense so all the sex tourists are in Vietnam?

It makes sense.

It means, if all you are after is sex sex sex, go to Pattaya or stay in Pattaya, because that's about all Pattaya excels in.

So the conclusion seems to be Da Nang is good for a short trip but too boring for long term living? maybe the equivalent of Jomtien?

I went to Da Nang 10 years ago and I can't remember it that's how bland it must have been

Many people, all over the world, tend to become bored in their retirement.

To fill in the hours of the day, they show attention to their garden, read books, walk, mind their grand children etc.

In Thailand, many are in the bar at 9am, due to boredom.

Whether retired in Pattaya, or Danang, one must fill their days with something other than drinking alcohol, just like any other retiree in any other country.

Exactly what you would do with the other 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day in Thailand.

Got to protect their friends in Thai breweries here, including the Thaibev company.

Thailand doesn't compete in a free market here, they just cruel the competition.

I'm really good at drinking beer, and as it's half the price in Vietnam, I can get in twice the practise.

If you are any good you won't need the practice. I graduated at 43 and have been trying to ween myself off it ever since --- but ever so slowly.

Plenty of 'hoi' in Pattaya.

Just back from a 4 week trip around Asia and the winner was? We went to Bali then Kuala Lumpur, Hoi an, Da Nang, Can Tho and then Pattaya, Hua Hin and the back to Bali. Most expensive Hua Hin and never see a reason to return. Most relaxing Bali and the  most surprising was KL will return. But the winner was Can Tho in the Mekong delta it was like Thailand was to us 20 year ago, hardly any western tourist so every thing had prices and cheap. Everyone wanted to practise there English with us and most helpful. Lots of water but no beach but you could easily drive to beach for a night away.

I have been to Can Tho.

Quaint, but a little too quiet for me, like most cities in The Delta.

I’m looking for alternate spots as well. Possible comparison threads: Pattaya vs. Goa, and Pattaya vs. Bali. Hmmm...
