A bright young Thai man who wowed social media after he was seen working as a security guard at a Chiang Mai temple has been accepted by Chulalongkorn University.

Weeraphong Saehan, 18, comes from a poor family in Nan in northern Thailand. His has been raised by his mother for the last seven years after his father left home.

He went to work at the temple of Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai to help his mum make ends meet while he waited on applications to Chiang Mai and Chulalongkorn universities.

Now he has been accepted by Chula - Thailand's most famous and oldest university - where he will study to become a vet.
