Neglect blamed for broken Najomtien sewage pumps

PATTAYA:--Broken pumps caused the sewage spill that blackened a Sattahip District beach, Najomtien officials said.

The filter is part of a 124-million-baht project built by the subdistrict to connect its sewer lines to Pattaya’s waste-processing plants. But the system was neglected for a year and broke down and its warranty expires next month.

Sattahip District Chief Anucha Intasorn said at a May 19 meeting that the sewage spill had cleared after stinking up a Moo 1 village beachfront for three days.

Najomtien Mayor Sompong Sainapa said the sewage came from homes and businesses and backed up in pipes and was pushed out when rain filled the sewers.

As they say in Brooklyn, neglect schmeglect. It does not matter whether or not it is neglect. It is totally on the city. They built it, they have to maintain it, and if it breaks, they take responsibility for it. Neglect is quite common here. Regular maintenance requires vision, discipline, willingness to spend the necessary money, and ability to follow a schedule.

But that would be less money in the crooks (I mean officials) pockets ????

"The filter is part of a 124 million Baht project"   Exactly !  Only part of the money was spent on the project. Who got the rest ??????

Great, neglect it when there is warranty and can get fixed! Somebody didn't 'notice' it was broken and not working or was it not in use. Waste of space bums on seats is the problem!

Somebody probably pulling a wage for an Engineer, that was not even on the books me thinks

Responsibility here lays with no-one!

I agree. The vision of those responsible for such things, from top to bottom, is shortsighted and in need of an adjustment.

Perhaps this an example of the unqualified, leading the unwilling to direct the uneducated.

The drizzle of a rain caused the pipes to back up?  Nonsense.  What will happen when bigger monsoon rains come?
