Those concrete dividers take up quite a lot of space and don't work on curves!   Perhaps a metallic divider would work better.   Regardless, they'll wait for the first major accide

Just went through the underpass(Chalong) very impressed with it, what a difference it has made to the area, wonder where the next one will be. Sent from my SM-G610F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mo

They need to replace those little plastic cones with a concrete divider.

As has been mentioned before, if a concrete divider was put in, no one could get out if there was an emergency, like a fire.

It has to be only a couple of feet tall.

Definitely need something solid as you will get the lunatics going through the tunnel in there pickups etc at high speed, should be okay during daytime hours but nightime is when the speed freaks come out to play, proof of that last night at 2am on the bypass road, many kids racing each other on there super fast mopeds.

Perhaps a metallic divider would work better.

Regardless, they'll wait for the first major accident before improving safety anyway.

So the powers to be are worried about a major incident in the Chalong underpass, it's a simple fix just get the police to do there job! Enforce a strict speed limit with hefty consequences should it be broken, nothing will be done until something happens!!

You know that will never happen, majority of people take no notice of prohibited signs and take no notice of the police, difficult to respect the police when they stand at traffic lights playing on there phones taking no notice of people not wearing crash helmets etc oh well that's how it is here, carry on regardless!

Sometimes the police are really helpful and even escort little school kids on their own police bikes if they don't have a helmet...

Roundabout fully open today. From Patak to East Road and Pier. Cheers.

Yes, it has been like that for a few days now. Smooth sailing, except too many people waiting on the circle for traffic coming on. In that respect nothing has changed, although the circle itself is wider than before as well.

Yes. If Thais (and a few farangs come to that) actually knew and stuck to the rules regarding roundabouts it's be even better. A couple of minutes is the norm now for turning right into Patak Road, and that's less than you wait at the lights northbound at Thanon Kwang (but that's a different issue!).

I have gone through the underpass a couple of times in both directions now, and I like it. It is bright, clear, and the curves are no problem at all. I don't like the entries and particularly the exits though, the road you end up on is too narrow with straight away traffic merging to negotiate a turn left or right.

Some people here are just desperate to see things fail so they get that all important I told you so comment in on FB/TV etc...... I hope there are no accidents & that it actually does what it is intended to do ....

How can it fail? It's working doing what it is supposed to do, any problems will be caused by the idiots who treat the tunnel as a race track(wow my exhaust sounds so good in this tunnel, let's go faster) the builders have done a fantastic job with the space they had to work with, it's now up to the police to actually do something to make it safe for everyone!!
