Channel 7 news reported on the Full Moon Party held at Had Rin beach in Koh Phangan earlier this week.

They reported that since the local district chief had ordered a crackdown on drug taking at the monthly party the image of Thailand had improved.

The media reported that mostly foreign tourists and Thai tourists were having a great time with many decked out  in luminous paint dancing the night away.

Yes, many were drunk but it was by and large good-natured and safe.

Channel 7 said that safety was a priority at the party. Party goers  were checked on arrival and exit for passports and ID cards.

Shops were checked for selling fake booze, overcharging and the distribution of drugs.

Since the Koh Phangan district chief had ordered "No Drugs" it was better for all, they said.

Thailand was already a drug-free country in 2003. I remember when Thaksin said so right after killing 2000 hilltribe people.

  • Yes, it´s much better for the image. I agree on that. The probelm, though, is that the party is popular because of the drugs.  In short, that means they are creating just another automatically fadi

Because all drug pushers are going to abide by the directive of the district chief, law-abiding citizens as they are!

No drugs at the FMP who are they kidding you can walk along the streets and smell the weed

Many moons ago I attended my one and only party down there. In the 20 metre space between two male and female toilet buildings was a pickup full of dealers who'd jump off the back to approach men as they went to use the facilities. Closer to the female building was a pickup full ogfBIB who did... Well, absolutely nothing.

I am surprised as, from what I understand: The drug-trade is driven by the locals...

these parties are now mainly  kids, the vast majority are now only drinking anway.  The small % on the back bar doing omelettes and shakes are lost in the  numbers.   Cant see how 20,000 drunk kids is better than  5000 tripped out hippies.

How can one possibly tolerate that ghastly music without being off one's head on drugs?

Said a pole of two generals????

The probability of Thailand becoming drug-free is equivalent to the probability of Thailand becoming prostitution-free.

In short, never going to happen.

Next party they should invite Uncle to attend and thrill the crowd with a few of his legendary hit songs. Military police could also be on hand to ensure that everyone dresses appropriately and applauds at all the right times. This would ensure that a safe, happy and memorable event would be enjoyed by all....and the image of Thailand would reach new, spectacular heights.

Weed you dufus its about the deadly chemicals like Methamphetamine which can be found easier than Marijuana in Thailand. The world is legalizing marijuana and Thailand should legalize it too. As for image bullshit bubble gum smoke and mirrors as per usual.

Where there is demand there will be supply.

Conversely, and to quote Tom Lehrer's "The Old Dope Peddler"

"He gives the kids free samples
Because he knows full well
That today's young innocent faces
Will be tomorrow's clientele"

When the number of tourists drops dramatically, the crackdown will crack.

Yes they have totally erased prostitution from Pattaya in just one group finger pointing photo...and same with the junkie island that is now a respected family resort to party....????.

Drug free Full Moon Party better

If you say so

Obviously the whole PR communication or it's statments are not "brown enveloppe free"....

Dream on ... if that ever happens then there won't be a full moon party anyone. The delusions of some are just stunning. What? You think everyone will travel all that way just for some 18th century fun and sit around on the beach singing wholesome songs that are approved by the dinosaurs ... lol.

They should remove the alcohol as well and declare it a drug and alcohol free zone.  Then there will be no more tourists coming, perfect for the image of Thailand.

I wouldn't take my passport with me to the FMP. What idiot came up with that idea?

Perhaps a photocopy.

drunk on ted bull and vodka.  Pathetic rubbish not safer at all and certainly not better for the image of thailand. Drugs underpin,  musical,  artistic,  creative   culture.
