PHUKET: There will be no official memorial service this Friday for the 47 Chinese tourists killed in the Phoenix tour boat disaster a year ago, because no one wants one, the Phuket Governor has announced.

This Friday (July 5) marks the first anniversary of the Phoenix catastrophe, in which the tour boat capsized and sank in a storm squall off Koh Hei (Coral Island), southeast of Phuket.

“There will be no public event because it is an accident that no one wanted to happen,” said Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana in a news release issued by the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department today (July 2).

He means: It's an event that nobody wants to let other people know it happened, it's bad for Thailand's and Phuket's reputation.

Too many ghosts still onboard

No memorial as it will dig up the memories that the Thai goverment has tried so hard to bury.

Besides, there are plenty of Chinese left to come and get ripped off or die.

By not holding a Memorial Service for the poor souls that perished on the " Phoenix " , Thailand has now just about killed the Golden Tourist Goose from China.

The Chinese will look at this as a snub, and a total lack of compassion, and remorse, by Thailand for the deaths of 47 of its Citizens, as any other Country also would.

Its no use the Thai Authorities trying to ignore the fact that the accident never happened,- it did, and the incident will never be forgotten by those that were directly involved in it.

You reap what you sow Thailand

'no one wants one' = 'because they were only Chinese'

Had it not been at the same time as the cave rescue it might have received more coverage by the worlds press.

Had one child died in that rescue we'd have had a national day of mourning but 47  people died and no one wants to talk about it.

What a strange world we live in.

No point in a memorial service if your no really sorry governor is there????

And, the accident could have been avoided

And now they are trying and selling the boat at auction start price 900,000 Bath,no respect disgusting disgusting.

Another clown in a governor's uniform - a memorial service would have meant the world to the survivors and relatives of those who lost their life!

Give the governor the hull as a farewell present asap!
