How much should I expect to pay for tailor made suite in Bangkok, let's say the middle quality (wool with cashmere fabric)? 

How long does it take to tailor it? 

Any recommendations? ????

Tailor On Ten, Sukhumvit Soi 8.

Beware of "mock" shops, they usually have what looks like rolls of fabric on the shelves but it's all an illusion, they are just a sales point for a central sweat shop ! They are purely say what you want to here to get the money, they don't "Tailor" anything.

I rate Sindo Tailors, not the cheapest or quickest but reliable and great fabrics.

I've met lot of them in Chiang Mai but their reviews are good so I am confused a bit. Where is the truth? ????

Clearly NOT the same then is it ! If it has that type/quantity of reviews.

The shops I spoke of are usually considerably smaller and usually dont have large window displays.

Ah yes, the reviews. I have to snigger, I am sorry. Even back in the early 90's, the first thing you were shown was the review book with Klaus from Munich saying, "Wunderbar" and Helga, Sweden, "So efficient and my dress fits me so well," and so on.

 

The same scams, the same methods, just stick it online. Don't change a winning formula.

With reference to Bangkok tailors, you bet, 100%.

 

May I ask you why you want to get a suit made in Thailand?

 

Reputation of higher quality than in the West? No.

 

Source of raw materials? No. Wool!!!! ????

 

Consumer protection, such as refunds for poor quality? Not a chance.

 

Cheaper labour? Yes, but not as much as you think and other countries are much cheaper still.

 

Because it is on the tourist trail? Maybe.

I use Tanika. For a suit minimum 2 weeks with probably 2 fittings.

If you want a suit made in 2 or 3 days then don't bother going to Tanika. They would refuse - it is not the way they do business, as is the case with Tailor on Ten.

I have used Jackie’s on Suk Soi 9 a few times with good results. Mostly just go for shirts now though, since I hate wearing a suit. 

Rajawongse clothiers on Suk. Between the Landmark Hotel and Soi4. Been using them for years have shirts I have been wearing for 3 years still look new. They are not inexpensive but you will get what you pay for. These guys have been at the same location for around 20 years. The main cost is the quality of the fabric and they have their own cutting shop. they are closer to Landmark hotel.

Of course they are. Open up the TripAdvisor for any of the tailors mentioned above, and you'll notice that the overwhelming majority of five-star reviews are from new accounts with no other reviews. Do you really think that tens of thousands of real people are creating tens of thousands of real TripAdvisor accounts just to leave a single positive review each of some Bangkok tailor shop and then never use TripAdvisor again?

 

If you want to see the real reviews, skip the positive ones and go straight to the negative. The one- and two-star reviews for some of the over-hyped shops mentioned above (Tailor on Ten and Rajawongse, in particular) make for some very entertaining reading.

It is much cheaper to get Tailor made suit here in Thailand then in Europe, for example. The materials also feels good but I am not a fashion specialist so I cannot recognize good/bad quality. Do you think it is not worth it at all?

I had no time to do some digging so I am grateful that you make it clear to me.

I think it is a high risk endeavour. Good chance of ending up with a low quality product for rather more than you expected. Remember no refunds in Thailand.

Racha's on soi 3/nana has been doing US and other diplomats and still does.  Bobby took over

from his father and the shop has been tailoring for at least 50 years.  I personally have had at

least 20 suits ...now retired and don't wear suits but the shirts/pants made over 20 years ago

still look new and I can actually still fit into them.

I have used Tanika several times in the past, they use top quality materials and the workmanship is flawless which is reflected in the price. Good service too, they did a free alteration for me on a pair of pants after I lost a bit of weight.

Absolutely right ! Looked in these shops and the big rolls of wool and cashmere are same ones year in year out ! “Feel the quality, it velly velly good” goes the sales talk!

Their sales strategies are good. They tell you to "Sit down", give you the catalog with Hugo Boss suits and start asking what do you want "Everything" is possible for them (you leave tomorrow, they can do it), etc. I've almost got persuaded several times...

So I took a risk and I've ordered a tailor made suit. Will let you know what is the result.

A very high percentage of the cotton is blended with poly, same with the wool.  You'll know it when it hits 40c outside.  I'll take sale items online from llbean any day of the week over any Thailand tailor shop.  Just have them delivered to someplace that doesn't have unreasonable import taxes.  The wrinkle free cotton pays a better dividend than any stock I have ever owned.  I haven't bought clothes here in 21 years, and quit using the laundry slobs 10 years ago..even at a hotel..I will find a machine, and clean the dirty filter, and use detergent from the US.

If anyone in Bangkok says their fabric is cashmere, they are lying. Tailor On Ten has some cashmere blend fabric and it will cost you over 100k thb for a suit in it. Cashmere ain't cheap and none of the tailors in BKK are working with it.

Screw tailors.

 

Buy Columbia PFG shirts: Tainami IIs are lightweight, Blood and Guts are a little Heavier but clean up nice when a soupcon of green chili sauce hurls itself on you. The polyster soaks up the copious sweat dripping down the expansive rolls of flesh barely contained in your shirt, which is a bit stretchy too allowing your manboobs the freedom they deserve. wear White for days so you dont look like a wet rag, dark for nights so you look a bit edgy and fetishistic.

The result:

The suit and trousers fit well. The fabric is probably lower quality (even if I've been told that it is their "medium" quality). When I've tried the suit in the store, I had a feeling that it doesn't breathe very well. Unfortunately, I cannot recognize the difference between good or bad fabric when I touch it. The details are made pretty decent tbh. There are a few minor issues but if you are not a faultfinder, I think you cannot spot them at all.

Overall, if you don't wear a suit every day but just from time to time to some ball, I think it was worth it (considering the speed and price). But we will see in a long time period.

 

Price: 7K THB (tailor made suit + shirt, tie)
Finished in 3 days.
