PHUKET: Mervyn Harding, the Brit expat living in Rawai who was charged with attacking a dog in Nai Harn last week, has been released on B90,000 bail, police have confirmed.

Harding was presented with charges of animal cruelty and trespass in Phuket Provincial Court last Thursday (July 18) after he was caught on CCTV attacking a dog with a metal rod in the early minutes last Tuesday morning (July 16). (See stories here and here.)

Harding was released just hours after his arrival at the court, The Phuket News confirmed today, despite police assurances that he had been denied bail at police request.

Funny that they want to deny bail for a man that attacks a dog and not murderers, rapists, etc

The  moral of this story is if being attacked bark  like a dog and that will scare off  your attackers, insane country.

I dunno, you can get bail for killing and eating a black panther if you're impotent important enough.

Any news on the condition of the dog?

Will it be called as a witness when the case goes to court?

Let him go ... but before that , he should have the same metal rod treatment that he gave to the dog ...

Have you ever noticed that when the story is about Thais who attack foreigners, there is never ever a follow up story?

KILL 9 and not spend one day in jail, there again he is not a hi-so Thai

I remember a murder case wherein bail was denied even to two Burmese scapegoats, who confessed during torture, buy no other evidence was present. They are still sitting on death row and waiting for a supreme court decision, which was due 10 month ago. Anything can happen in Thailand.

Sure the fine will be 100,000 so he will still owe 10,000 in the farang milking exercise just don't ever attack a cow or the fines will be churning out forever????

Must pay all vet bills, beat him like a dog while in detention (impersonating a grab driver) and then deport him for no less than 5 years....

you judge a culture on how one treats their animals...

This has nothing to do with the fact that the guy hit a dog, the crime could have been anything. It's about the police seizing an easy opportunity to get some money and deport a farang at the same time, win-win for them.

The simple answer is give him the same punishment as he gave the dog . Case Over.
