Caption: Frightening: Rider decapitated

A man riding a BMW s1000 motorcycle was decapitated after colliding with the side of the Klong Tan flyover yesterday morning.

The rider's body was taken to Chulalongkorn Hospital for autopsy.

It was later discovered that he was 37 year old Phatnarin Pongthananikorn.

He is the son of Prasert Pongthananiokrn also known as DJ Raya who heads the Music Train record label.

Phatnarin is also the cousin of well known Thai actress "Ice" Preechaya.

Sanook reported that riders are forbidden from going on that particular bridge.

Klong Tan police are investigating.

Perhaps they are trying to determine as to whether his head was missing before he hit the bridge ?

  • So what are they supposed to do if riding along a highway, and a bridge comes up. Do a U turn, drive wrong way back to an exit, leave the highway and find a small road which will lead back onto the hi

And he was not supposed be riding on the bridge anyway according to the report but guess he thought that did not apply to him because he was a relative of a "celebrity". Some poor chap died, RIP, whether he was a relative of a celebrity or not why does Thai press always mention such irrelevances ?

Quick way to go. I doubt he felt much. Perhaps there was a good reason that "riders are forbidden from going on that particular bridge".

Nearly all motorcyclists in Bangkok ignore the signposts not to ride on the flyovers and bridges. Nothing to do with celebrity - more to do with the fact that for the best part of two years now the police are doing nothing to stop it at source. They are relying more on cameras.

This guys relatives are very well known people in Thailand.

why an autopsy?  Even a Thai Doctor, dumb as they often are,  should be able to tell that a missing head is a good indicator as to the cause of death?

I know that they need to check for drugs and alcohol, but that is not an autopsy.

Since we got a new concrete rd on lower Sukhumvit its used by Bikes as a shortcut at night with absolute terrifying speed sometimes overtaking 2 and 3 deep on a fairly narrow soi with a lot of tourists especially Indians walking 3 deep in the middle of the rd

Every death from speeding is Darwin at work removing idiots from the gene pool

yes, never thought of that.  Clearly his head may have been attached, but it may have been empty of brain.

all bridges should be no go for m-bikes

So what are they supposed to do if riding along a highway, and a bridge comes up. Do a U turn, drive wrong way back to an exit, leave the highway and find a small road which will lead back onto the highway, then re-join until the next bridge.

So whats the celebrity linkage have anything to do with the accident????

Why?

I suspect that the law originated many years back when a "big bike" was a 150cc. Basically, I guess that they didn't want the majority of riders on their beaten up Honda Dreams wobbling across the bridges getting in the way. Fair enough. But nowadays, the vast majority of so called "big bike" riders seem well up to the task of controlling their 300cc, 400cc whatever motorcycles, and are also suitably attired in high quality riding gear. And the latest batch of 300cc+ motorcycles will easily exceed the speed limit, so it's not as if they will get in your way.

And it's not as if all the car/truck drivers are driving along carefully now is it?

Yes, I'm very pro motorcycle. I've been riding motorcycles since I was a small kid and raced them for many years. I'm aware of the dangers, and of riding within one's own limits and the limits of the road conditions.

I don't think that a single incident like this warrants a blanket statement like "no go for m-bikes"

Anyway, I'll get back to more important things........

Exactly what I said in my earlier post. I suspect it is the Thai syndrome of considering some people are more important than others if they are well known and/or have money.

the bridge didn't know who he was

Why is my question. Same as the motorway, I don’t see the sense on restricting big capacity bikes from using them

RIP bloke...."riders are forbidden from going on that particular bridge".

That's very dangerous allowing Indians to walk 3 deep as you can't see them at night ????????

Not sure I could agree as many passengers, occupants of other vehicles and pedestrians die as a result of speeding and not sure if they were idiots or not having not known them personally.

LOSE not LOOSE !   LOL

New twist to the headless horseman. Bangkok now has their own headless biker. Can be seen late night on the BKk expressways riding free.  Sad way to go and hope he is at peace.
