RAZZELL Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 I found this site/Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/topbidder/ I imagine this is how some dealers get around the import duty. Frightening that they cut cars in two and then will re-weld them back together! ???? RAZZ
transam Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Think a couple of weeks back we saw here a Subaru-Impreza that was probably one of those imports, both halves went in different directions...???? 2

That was exactly my immediate thought. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
Toosetinmyways Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Driving through Laem Chabang the other day and saw a truck coming out of the port exit with 5 front cuts. 1 was a c class Mercedes. So someone is still able to import.
MatteoBassini Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 This is usually done for people specifically interested in engine swaps. Import dealers don't sell this kind of car, the document will blatantly show that the car is "จดประกอบ" meaning it wasn't imported as a whole car (CBU), but disassembled before importing and then reassembled in some way in the country. 1

That is very unlikely to be a cut and shut car being offered for sale as, judging by the commercial vehicles in attendance, it appears to be at an import location and it is clearly has some damage on it's r/o/s as can be seen from the damaged light unit. The half-cut is clearly at a different location that looks like a scrap/parts yard. The FB account suggests that cars such as this are imported and then dismantled for those who want to use the parts to repair or upgrade their own cars. Nowhere does it state that they sell cars that have been cut into two and re-welded together and, even if they were doing that to avoid duty, they sure wouldn't be advertising it on Facebook!
