Kitty has to be the oldest DIY item I have from my youth, he may even have been my first ever project.

I made Kitty in the mid 1960's. I think he was from BBC plans either Blue Peter or Animal Magic.

He spent many years on the wall at Granny's (later Uncle John's) house, he came back to me when John died (RIP Uncle John).

The paint (IIRC Humbrol enamel, meant for plastic kits) is wearing thin and won't take cleaning. I won't re-paint him, it would spoil the naive splodgings of a 6-7 year old me (I doubt I would do better now anyway).

Kitty is now a fridge magnet with a magnet salvaged from an old hard drive stuck on with double-sided tape.

He brings back many happy memories of summer holidays at "Granny's House" near Cirencester.

I also made one of these, an Animal Magic Bavarian Bird Table, long consigned to the compost of rotting wood ????

Someone is digging through old boxes ? ????

Not really, digging up old (happy) memories, definitely.

Back in 2004 I went to see Uncle John with my shiny new Thai wife. I'd not seen John for many years and was more than somewhat amazed to see the cat key holder that we made when I was 6 or so still in the same place we had screwed it 40 years earlier.

When John died a couple of years back Mum asked if there was anything I wanted from the house, there could only be one object.

So Kitty made the trip to Thailand in a Jiffy Bag.

So many memories in a plywood key holder made by a 6 year old.

I wish I hadn't smashed up all the "Dinky" toys my father gave me...mind you he kept the ones with boxes.

Tell me about it. All too often on Flog It or the like something pops up that I had as a kid then lost, smashed, swapped for something else, set on fire. Then it sells for a couple of grand ????

I went back to the uk to clear my dads house as he went into a home.
Been in the family since 1955 and a lot of great memories there.
Nothing left of my childhood I’m afraid except for some old wallpaper ( looney tunes characters ) in the back of a built in cupboard in what was my bedroom.
My brothers children and mine have long since destroyed any remnants from my, and my brothers, childhood .
Granny and Grandad gave them free rein !!

When I saw the title of this thread for some strange reason ( I think it was because I was wondering what on earth it could be about ) the song “Sheena is a punk rocker “ came into my head and now I cannot get it out !!

Try it , it fits perfectly !!

Sorry, probably shouldn’t be drinking this early ☹️

I had one of those...the DB7

With ejector seat, the pop up bulletproof back window shield and the two firing machine guns at the front.

Normal practice was just to keep passing the younger kids

When I saw the post, I thought what the hell is Crossy doing posting about "Kitty is fridge magnet" - so out of character for Crossy, then I thought it must be some sort of electrical test equipment keeping up with the Thailand "Hello Kitty" craze.

However, a great little story from early childhood, what a fantastic keep-sake.

I did think ???? Crossy is hitting the bottle early today , so I might as well join him ????

hence my post !!

But, yes a fantastic keep-sake that’s been treasured by other members of the family and now back to its rightful owner .
