don't know how your boxes work, but maybe a plug upside down and the signal ends up in Neutral while your device expects signal in the "live" wire.

I have something similar - when we turn off the ceiling fan, the tv in the same room turns itself off. Same breaker . Any ideas ??

Wouldn't lighting/ceiling fan be on a separate breaker to power outlets ? Is it a remote control to turn the fan off ?

Can the TV be turned back on while the fan is off ?

NOTHING is normally plugged into any of the affected room wall plugs, so I don't have anything to unplug. I'm of the old tradition - if you don't use it, then unplug it if you possibly can. Also serves as a guard against lightning, power surges and whatever. The room itself consists of ceiling lights, a ceiling fan (also with lights) and wall sockets  - a double set (the problematic ones) and a single set next to the door (no problem here, they're on a different breaker).

In the adjoining room (kitchen) - and on the SAME wall, is one socket that is on the problematic breaker - and which also has the same Powerline issue. I guess the wiring to this socket is perhaps extended from the problematic double wall sockets. All other sockets in the kitchen work fine.

UPS or surge suppressor - no have.

However, I'm gonna try and pull ALL the <deleted>' plugs in and around the house (fridge, pump, tv, etc) and just have the router on - and then try again.

Cheers ????

Is it possible that the neutral in this socket is borrowed from another neutral/breaker? This is also a safety issue.

A new turn of events - after the blue moon man reckoned the actual wiring in the affected room is completely sound and okay. However, he said he'd bring some "test wiring" with him the next time he came around. If that gave any bad indications then he'd re-wire the whole room. That could turn out to be a time-consuming and expensive project, so I gave it all some thought over the next couple of days, coming to the conclusion that it would be quicker and probably much cheaper to completely drop the idea of using powerlines any longer and look for a different solution.

In the end I bought a 300 Baht wifi extender and a 99 Baht Lan adapter (for the pc) and now have access to the internet again. Great, it all works beautifully - and with both 2.4 & 5G signals, to boot.

Conclusion : still don't know why the powerlines won't work in that room, though I'm suspecting that the new router has something to do with it.

So, now I have 4 powerline boxes to use sometime in the future, possibly if/when the router gets changed once again.

End of story (for now!)

Good result. I suggested swap the router for the old one a few posts back. 3BB came and changed our router for a 'new model' and found there were more problems and the bs new router was full of red ants. So asked them to put back my origional router and it was still laying in the back of the car. So I thought yours may have been too.

I was going to suggest extenders as I have 2. Work well, only problem is (I think this is the problem) when the wifi signals are fading in and out sometimes the router wifi signal is stronger than the area near the extender signal, and the device I'm using keeps switching. If watching TV it's a bit off putting. There is a way around the problem, but I just mention it incase it happens to you so you will know the problem.

Yes, thanks - I do remember your previous suggestions and kept the info about the router in the back of my mind. Still, I've never had any real problems with the previous routers supplied by TOT - other than the max 100MBs router that last was set up, when we were paying for 150MBs. We can't ask for the old router, as this is the 100MBs one.

The latest router installed is a ZTE 670 thing ("the newest of the new", we were told), which otherwise works very well. I admit I'm not too interested in calling TOT for a replacement, as after the techy guy has been here, I always have to check through the whole setup again, looking for any RJ45 cables "forgotten" to be plugged in (happens nearly every time) and check that the software and hardware on all PCs, tv boxes, smartphones, tablets and other "toys" are all working correctly.

Now I have to admit that the router can certainly be the possible cause of the problem - though I can live with the slight inconvenience.

Oh - the PC in the affected room is mostly used as a "repair and test" PC, used when fixing HDDs, mice/mouses and the usual HW/SW computer stuff that needs checking or breaks down after a while.
