Just the level of detail in the report shows how serious big guns Huawei and Roland Berger are about rolling out Phuket Smart City services.

PHUKET: The 148-page report drafted by international consultancy Roland Berger and global tech giant Huawei identifying six key strategies for the government to follow to develop Phuket into a “Smart City” has set the marker for the level of players keen to join this next step in the island’s evolution.

These are not small boys. Roland Berger has 2,400 employees in 36 countries. In 2011, the company had US$1.2 billion in sales, and last year recorded US$670 million in revenues. Huawei, which would be expected to be doing most of the heavy lifting in rolling out Smart City tech, as of September 2018 had over 188,000 employees. The company’s annual revenue rose to US$108.5bn in 2018 – a 21% increase over 2017.

The report identifying the island’s woes was pretty much a no-brainer: limited (sic) public transportation options, high transportation costs, electricity and water supply issues, low infrastructure readiness, and waste management failings – like we didn’t already know.

Yes, their bills are big.

yeah i wonder how much the kickbacks were for commissioning a report that looks like little more than "common sense"

Phuket is on a road to nowhere, too much corruption and hearty appetite for greed has totally ruined the Island. Claims that Phuket would eventually rival Singapore was just a pipe-dream... a fantasy born from the imagination of dreamers.

It will be 100 years if not more before Phuket becomes anything near as smart like Singapore. Best to start getting a handle on the basics, like adequate education first.

Cities like Shenzhen are already smarter than Singy.   We all know the triad holds  Thailand back.  Many Thai companies with some help can do these things, but we all know why they do not get the bids.  Thailand will continue to squawk hub talk while be left behind.

Funny how the report ignores the obvious—a painfully high Baht.  Then again, I wouldn’t expect the ChiCom entity Huawei to acknowledge this.  Too much like the pot calling the kettle black...
