How Do You Get One Up On "irritating Wonkers"?

Featured Replies

Posting this here, as if I post it on general, I think it has a lifespan of approximately 3 posts & I genuinely want some input.

On a couple of general topics, one yesterday, I've been flamed. Sbk actually commented on the one yesterday on the thread. I didn't reply to the flame, as it would have taken the whole thing off topic, and I would have probably ended up flaming too.

OK, that, I agree is the mature way to act. I know it's the right thing to do. But it sometimes gets my goat that others reading the thread might think this idiot got one-up on me, or forced me to back down, when my non-response is actually out of respect for OP & TV rules.

I know I'm a petty child, wanting to win the argument, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to do so without breaking rules or dragging the thread into no-mans land? :D Sometimes the petty child just wants to have her way!! :o:D

What I often do is to point out to the flamer that such off topic postureing is better delivered in a PM so that the general membership can avoid having to wade through a post which for them is probably very boring and definitely off topic.

or something similar.

you can also report them which might get the flame deleted.

Chownah

Ain't you been reading my posts, Girl? :o

Sometimes I just ignore them, too.

To respond, you have to thank the winker for his post and then shred him with a retort worded in the third person. That way, it's not a direct flame, just a generalisation.

Oh, pm me and tell me who flamed you. As your big, bad sister, I'd be pleased to use my pen, keyboard and tresses to deal with the lardbutt.

Have never really been flamed myself, but irony might be the best way to counter it. See the thread in the Pattaya section "Why is Pattaya such a hole" which has been closed now fro good sake.

What this guy Jeff Rosner let out was far beyond good taste and I wonder why the post has not been pulled. oooooooooopss......that was not discussing anything..... :o

Not easy this one NR.

I think it really depends on the flamers intention, some do it to get a rise out of you, most trolls MO. They are better ignored. Some do it, let's say accidentally, they aren't known for it and you just happen to have said something that got under their skin a little bit too much, which is very easy to do with some....... those I would send a PM saying that you didn't mean it like that, or something along those lines.

When all is said and done, when one old-hand sees another one on the end of a bashing, the respects for the basher drops, not the bashee.

dear miss rain,

you are talking to an expert ex flamer, but i only retorted with my razor sharp wit when i was taking a few direct hits. :D

alas,

i had to give it away, as the mods were going to send terence's arse all the way to mars on a one way trip. :bah:

but i must tell you miss rain,

i had an awful lot of fun before the mods threaten'ed to put me before a firing squad, thats if i ever made it back from mars, that is. :o

anyway,

i only had to sort out a few of the floggers , as 99% of thaivisa punters are ok and the few floggers just faded away.

now i'll give you the good oil on how to avoid letting the flamers get your goat cranked up. :D

what you got to do is not even worry about the naughty flamer's, give a little whistle and just look on the bright side of life.

thats what monty python did and he won the game. :D

cheers miss rain. :D

if you need anymore expert advise, dont be afraid to ask my good self. :bah:

jee-sus Miss Jet,

you aint suppost to remember that bit. :o:D :D

Flamers are just cowardly types who are trying to wind you up. Think about it, we all have the right to reply to a topic with an opposing view. So what's a flamer trying to do? No, ignore them...

Or you could just tell them to <deleted> OFF!!!

On a couple of general topics, one yesterday, I've been flamed.

I occasionally get flamed NR, I know heaven forbid! but it is generally down to the Flamer looking for a higher profile and sometimes they may feel the attacked is an easy target.

Most people see it for what it is and that is a cheap shot, if you respond then it may escalate and dilute the whole topic and that is no benefit to the OP.

Anyway tell me which tread it was I rarely go into General anymore and I will put them on the 'Marked list :o Metaphorically speaking of course.

But as Suegha says, you may just retaliate and post and be damned. :D

Good Luck

Cheers, everyone. Some good ideas for the future. Will let this sleeping dog lie, though - but I know who it is & I'll be paying special attention to them in the future to see if I can ever get my own back (in a totally above board way, of course). Like Chownah's suggestion of asking them to continue it via pm, that way I get to show I'm not backing down without breaking any rules, for any future occurences. Thanks, all :o

- ask yourself 3 question

what do you gain ?

by doing so what had improve for you or anyone

will i have a happier life ?

good luck

In a thread (some time ago now), a certain member was posting in a manner that was offensive to many. I responding by challenging him to come up with FACTS to back up is arguments. He of course had none (I knew it, as I had actually researched the topic and did indeed have facts to back up my arguments). The more facts I was able to lay out, the worse his responses became.

The other member resorted to flaming pretty much the entire ThaiVisa membership, to the point of making statements that bordered on slanderous (and would have got his teeth knocked out had he said them in person). In the 2+ years I've been on TV, it was the only time I've ever reported someone for a post they made. Said member went on a "holiday" I believe, and I don't recall seeing him around since.

In a case like yours, I would probably respond with a well thought out counter to the flame, and then in the next paragraph use B.O.T. (Back On Topic) to keep the thread in line. I find most flamers are not able to respond (or respond well) to intellectual response to their flames.

Have fun !

P.S. Am I a flamer now

November Rain, I am going to give you the official version.

1. Do not respond to the flame.

2. Click on the “Report” button at the bottom left of the flaming post to report it to the moderation team.

The faster this report is made, the faster the offending post can be trashed, before there are subsequent posts quoting from the offending post, then more posts quoting from the posts that quote from the offending post, etc. Once this chain reaction happens, it is going to be very difficult for a moderator to clean up the thread.

Don’t anybody make the mistake of thinking of the moderators as omniscient, omnipresent supermen and superwomen. They can’t catch a flame as fast as the collective online membership can, but there is probably always at least one moderator online and the moment a member makes that report a message will pop up on the screen of all online moderators and they will fall over themselves trying to be the quickest to take remedial action.

That’s the official line, and on behalf of all moderators I should like to express my thanks for the co-operation of all members.

Never been flamed??? Okay. You are a Manchester United supporter you are, you're just a manc that supports United!!!

How about that? I chose Man U as I saw you have a Liverpool shirt in your avatar!

(I think that's even better! :o )

"You are an irredeemably sybaritic dreck and a narcissistic, armpit-licking oppressive orgy of perversion."

Hey ! I resemble that ! :D

Besides, I didn't know it was her armpit ! Honestly ! It was dark, I was drunk, it was hairy ! :o

As for the other part, you made a spelling error. It should read "impressive orgy of perversion" !! :D :D

I thought I'd post my question here , even though it is slightly (OK a lot) off topic ,

rather than opening another thread.

My question is "How do you get one up on a clique of female mass debators who

are flooding the forum with fuzzy little euphemisms such as "wonkers" , "winkers"

and I have even seen "wonklettes"?".

Answers on the back of a 7/11 receipt please guys.
