Meat-hauling pickup slams into power pole

PHUKET: A man and a woman were left pinned inside the pickup truck they were travelling in to deliver fresh meat to Phuket Town early yesterday morning (Oct 27) after the pickup slammed into a roadside power pole.

 

Lt Col Kitiphum Thinthalang of the Thalang Police was notified of the accident, in the southbound lane of Thepkrasattri Rd across from the Thai Watsadu store in Srisoonthorn, just north of the Heroines Monument, at 5am.

 

Officers along with Kusoldham rescue workers and an EMS team from Thalang Hospital arrived at the scene to find a Bangkok-registered grey Toyota Vigo pickup truck still embedded into the power pole.

If I look at the pictures in The Phuket News it is worrisome that FRESH meat is transported like this.

Mr Apichat told police that he and Ms Somporn were delivering the fresh meat from Baan Takhli in Tambon Thai Meuang, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga province to Phuket Town when he fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident.

Admits falling asleep, OK. But the impact was not at a speed of 50 KPH?

If the load was Thai beef....that's the best place for it!

Fell asleep at the wheel. Once again.

Driving at night is dangerous.

Driving in the early morning (in the dark) must be worst of all.

The power pole is impressively erect.

 

 

Did the mix the cement with some sidegra or something?

Why 50 kph? 90 kph is the speed limit there.

Now I can understand falling asleep when driving alone, but when driving with your wife, how is that even possible with all the nattering?

True. Usually wives are accused of driving you round the bend - perhaps that's how he hit the pole?

Have you never  seen those roadside  stalls...you know the ones with 1000000000000 flies hanging around them....selling "fresh meat"

Modern vehicles are designed to crumple on impact, it seems to be a  common thing here when a  vehicle  looks  like this that they "must" have been speeding. If the car looked intact theyd  most likely be dead.
