So according to you only 4% of Thais are government workers.... That is just nonsense.

Population 70 mill.

Workforce 38 mill.

Well there is one thing we know about these tourists, they can't be using THAI.

I hope its true but Shouldn’t these great numbers than reflect in the streets of the tourist Cities and areas?

Where are the streets packed with money throwing Chinese and Indians holiday makers?

I won’t mention the farangs because they have already stopped visiting  since 5 years ago stated in earlier reports.

Hmmmm.........I wonder why hotels in Phuket are reducing prices; why the real estate spruikers are crying in their beers; why small shops are closing, and small hotels and guest houses are reporting low/no bookings??

Someone is telling porkies, and I've got a good idea who!!

"

"

Yes right..!

THIS is WHY everybody in Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang, Ko Lanta are asking: "Where are they?!"

They still offer rooms and bungalows at 50% discount until middle of December!

Bookings are nowhere!

So HOW can they still invent such nonsense of "growing tourism" I really don't understand!

Wait and see...

... and many will stop laughing soon

... and more will quit their business even before new year

... as usual seen in the last 5 years of continuous decline in hotel-nights!

But it seems that they believed in their own statistics,
and they want to build bigger airports .

Not denying its truth, as I am not someone who posts about tourists numbers declining as I genuinely have no idea, However, are they really able to calculate this within 3 - 4 weeks?

A total of 2.9 million tourists in September spent 139.6 billion baht ($4.62 billion), up 8.73% from a year earlier.

Attached are the raw numbers. I have added a column for September's 2018 arrivals.

Somebody said once that there are true ways to hide the truth....the first is to lie....the second is with stats.

Nevertheless, maybe tourist numbers are on the rise ? maybe not...but listen to the cabbies moaning that their business is slow if not dead...look at restaurants that always have free tables or are half empty....see the malls, deserted, look at the hotels who cannot argue anymore when you ask for a late checkout and are actually getting nicer due to a deserved level of inoccupancy....etc..

So rise in numbers makes no sense, if tourist spending power is totally dead....

When you buy an air Asia ticket to enter bangkok and immediately fly to Cambodia, Vietnam or Laos you are given a 30 day exempt visa. Perhaps 20 million a year just transiting. Why doesn't TAT come clean and state how many are just transiting and yet get stamped in as tourists. Lies and statistics. Meanwhile queen size rooms are 120 baht on cat ba island, Vietnam good for 2 people.

Visitors from China, Thailand's biggest source of tourists, totalled 852,130 in September, up 31.56% from a year earlier. It rose 18.89% in August.

When I was still holidaying in Pattaya and we were in the hotel pool, a group of Chinese tourists walked by and two spit in the pool.

Are these the quality tourists they want? Congratulations!

And all the bills have to be paid. If tourists arrive, or not.

You think the PM is a decent and honourable man, you will believe anything for some reason.

Very bizarre mindset

Don't just single out our Steven. Take a look at the other junta fanbois quietly reinventing themselves as government critics and hoping nobody notices.

Here's 2018 arrivals. As you can see Sept last year was one of the lowest troughs of the year

They are comparing  against a very low figure.

Here we go again, more B.S.  What bafflels me is when they come out with figures on how much tourists spend, the Chinese tour operators all get paid in China for hotels, restaurants trips etc, as same with Indians, also nobody knows what I spend in Thailand, in bars, small mom & pop stores, food vendors etc, etc, as most of these are not declared & taxed.

Tourist numbers and their spending habits are measured using the sampling technique. TAT has agreements with over a thousand businesses in each of the major tourist centres whereby they are sent details of tourist expenditure every week, this is supplemented by Immi. statistics of arrivals. Specific hotels for example are asked to record how many foreign visitors, their country of origin, number of nights stay and details of how much they spent. Tour operators provide similar information, as does restaurants large and small, department stores, 7/11's and even small mom and pop stores. That information is aggregated, extrapolated, averaged and modelled, using data from the same businesses every time helps reduce business specific distortion.

It's not a fool proof system but over time it can be fairly reliable, the same system is used in other countries including the UK and the US to measure voting habits, unemployment and the US population census.

How cute, a poster thinks that explanation of how TAT measures tourism is sad....if only we knew why, perhaps some of the words were too long or difficult!

What is amazing is it takes months to calculate the results of a rigged election yet these figures flow out...LOL

I don't believe a word.. September is typically one of the slowest months for travel.

Just got back from Da Nang- Vietnam and there was loads of Thais holidaying there.

Seems even they've had enough of Thailand too.

It's way too expensive for its own good now.

I will have been counted as 2 tourists even though i had only 4 nights there, 2 before and 2 after my holiday and hardly spent anything as i resent the high prices and bad attitudes.

I'm actually starting to hate the place.

Flight from the Uk was £470 on Eva, booked 3 days before and that's the cheapest its been for years- Quite full on the way there but many Taiwanese transiting, but less than half full on the way home as I and many others had a full row of 3 to sleep on.

Thai Air was £700.

Both Swampy and DM airports were quiet...

TAT and POTUS are a match made in heaven.

The only solution perhaps is to send a army to kidnapp tourists from abroad and bring into thailand.
