Thailand's tourist police chief appeared at a press conference yesterday to declare that tourists would be safe and sound this high season and the country will act as hood hosts to the millions of visitors expected.

Unfortunately going by the past record tourists have other ideas!

Now that they’ve successfully deflated the USD (and some other western currencies)—they won’t have to worry about treating us right...

Another day, another enormous banner, another trailing commission and the usual self promotion by the police.

No mention about death or injury awaiting tourists travelling Thailand by road or sea. Or the greatest killer of all....the sleeping driver.

another day.... another lie.... it's all back to normal

First time I've heard the word Host used in connection with tourists.

Unfortunately the average Thai does not understand the word host and the attitude and behavior it implies.

We are always reminded that we are just guests here and it's all down to us to conform to local customs and attitudes. Fair enough but as we are invited here Thais also have a responsibility to behave as "Hosts", make allowances and treat us the invited guests that we are.

Guests?

He says that on Halloween... wonder what stand-up comedian dressed up as him to do this presentation and make this statement.

Mike Yarwood.

If they want to be good Host then start at the airport

that's not bad but it would be much, much better if they started to be good hosts by taking care of (us expats) the ones already here, not coming up with non sense new requirements

Robbed of my wallet by a Nigerian or cremated in a mini bus inferno.i know which one I would choose.

they are totally clueless on looking after tourists.

how about giving thais a proper prison sentence for crimes against tourists and show you really mean business and care about your their reputation of Thailand.

"how about giving thais a proper prison sentence for crimes against tourists",

Which Thais, the ordinary people or Thai Immigration?

Indeed. The costumes, medals, braide and other store bought ornaments do not cover up the sad state of corruption that goes on daily.

Many posters appear to be thinking of the American (or western) model of government when they criticize the Thai government or government officials.  Perhaps we should evaluate it in terms of the  Chinese model which China is trying to promote around the world. Increased surveillance and control?  Check.

There are many videos explaining the Chinese model and China’s promotion of it.  The recent talk given by Newt Gingrich at USC is on You Tube.  There are many others explaining China’s world-wide objectives.

It’s something to think about.  What exactly is the Thai government aspiring to?

Is 'good host' an oblique way of saying they are going to make double pricing illegal, beginning with the government's own policy displayed in national parks and at hospitals, where many will surely need to be treated for the injuries they will suffer in buses that can't stay upright and/or on the road?

For example, two Thai girls and one white tourist are infected

with Denge Fever.

Tourist paying three times the price of the treatment pays for himself

and for two Thai...."Gold mine"

3. A thieving German was arrested in Pattaya. He found a wallet at Central Marina belonging to a Korean and kept the 700,000 won (17,500 baht) inside it for himself.

Now I feel much safer in Thailand.  ????

Wouldn't it be great if Pinocchio was the head of TAT. That would be a tourist attraction in itself.

Pinocchio should be the head of everything. Such an honest guy will attract billions of European tourists.

Quote, “The country will act as hood hosts.” Saying ‘will act’ (future tense) implies the country has been not been good hosts before. Comparing Thailand to neighbouring countries, that’s true, Thailand’s current ‘hospitality’ is, IMO, the worst in the region.

If I’m wrong, no problem, I definitely don’t need Thailand. The place is a waste of time, compared to where I could be.
