PHUKET: A 72-year-old German expat was left bound with tape and suffered a 12-centimetre knife wound to his left arm as two men armed with long knives robbed his house yesterday evening (Nov 7), making off with ATM cards and later withdrawing only B5,100 before the cards were cancelled.

Capt Anuwat Raksayot of the Phuket City Police was notified of the robbery at 6:20pm and soon arrived at the scene, at a house in Moo 5, Rassada, off the bypass road, with fellow officers.

Juthaporn Chudam, 50, who lived in the house, told police that she had arrived home at about 5pm to find two men about 20-25 years old and armed with long knives inside her house.

As usual the reporting of this is poor, the story raises twice as many questions as the answers it gives.
Did they break in, or did he open the door ? Were they wearing masks, can they be identified ? Why did they flee through the back of the house ?
Seems a lot of risk for a THB 5000 reward. Should be 10 years inside for stupidity and 6 months for the crime

One hopes the ATM they used to withdraw B5,100 will have taken a nice picture of at least one of the robbers. :ninja:

Maybe it was not the goal maybe the goal was to hold the foreign gentlemen till they emptied his account of the 400,000 or 800,000baht they new he must have. Thank the woman on her return or this could of had a far more serious outcome. Thai families have been murdered for a lot less with that type of crime (think I read 100,000baht then killed the family). All expats have that target on their backs now.

Not garbage.  I have frequently been warned by Thai people themselves about how falang are considered good targets.

Tell everybody you dont understand Thai. That will mean the robbers will have to demand your atm code in english, which means they lose face as they have limited language skills.

They would rather go to the next target and get 799.000 baht less than lose face.

But is there enough money left in the account to entice the police to proceed with the investigation ?

Thankfully you never ever ever see elder abuse in farang countries.

We respect them too much.

Many of them who use 'money in the bank' have an FD account (no ATM card on those accounts).

The article does contain a fair amount of information and if you click the link, you'll get even more.

Poor reporting or simple Thai bashing?

Thank God he survived.  Some Thai wives are good at making some cool organised crimes.... You better saved that secrets of yours before she decent on you with her buddies.

VIOLENT crime against the elderly has rocketed to record levels in Britain. Shocking statistics uncovered by the Daily Express show the number of over-65s subjected to assaults has soared by nearly 260 per cent in the past 10 years.

And that's just the UK!
