Florida Resident mailed passport to LA Consulate for SETV

Featured Replies

I currently reside in Florida. Not realizing that the various embassies and consulates have specific jurisdictions I sent my I and my wife's US passports to the Thai consulate in LA. I see they received them on 11/4. Is it possible they will process the visas or will our passports most likely be returned with no visa? Has anyone else outside of the west coast jurisdiction every successfully gotten a mailed in visa from LA?

I just called the LA Consulate. The visa officer said it wouldn't be a problem. He said he had just issued one today for a Pennsylvania resident. In the future I'll mail it to the correct jurisdiction address but hopefully no problem like he said.

There is a Thai consulate in Coral Gables Fl.

yeah.  I live in Florida.  Over the years I found getting in contact and getting answers or feedback from the Fl consulate was very difficult.  But they are supposed to be able to handle SETVs.  I am currently working in California, so I plan to just do a walk in to the LA embassy for my SETV in December

Good you have it sussed out and it works for you.

Consulates can go either way. I have used the Portland Oregon Consulate. Far better than any embassy if they can satisfy your needs. Getting in touch can be difficult as they are also another working business, besides a consulate.

The geographic restrictions for service from the "unofficial and official" consulates in the US has fallen by the way side once the respective Consular officials realized that their "rice bowls" were being severely restricted by those restrictions

The Thai Embassy in Washington published a list a couple of years ago on their web site, but that graphic has been removed
