You have my vote for MOTY.

After you finish your traineeship that is.

Ask you builder to show you his spirit level. They are too lazy to use them, always do the drains by eye, and the result is, the drains don't drain.

Thank you Bobby, your support is noted ..

When the house was being built, the only time I saw a spirit level it was covered in plaster & lying on the floor.

Surprisingly, the doors are all hung correctly.

Back on topic....????????

Yes..I think so too...it's quite surprising that the subject has popped up here.

2 years ago wasn't it?

I had major trouble with the drains at my place-which are hopefully in the process of being corrected at the moment as some renovations are going on partially due to the fact that they have built up the soi outside by a couple of feet..with little or no drainage.

When they built your house did they silicone the sink in the benchtop? Mine have the excuse that it makes it easier for him to fix things later.

I said it was new, why would it need to be fixed?

Best not to answer your first question, off -topic & all that...????

Nope, no silicone used, & around the gas hob the silicone is intermittent.

I don't think a lot of the wiring is correct either, but that's for the future.

Continuing to rain, the fish in our pond are loving it.

They're up to 500gms now, since we bought them in October.

Some great cafes on Gloucester Road for a decent fry-up!

Did you ever see 'The Line' in St Paul's?

The drug dealers used to line up either side of the road by the Black & White cafe, selling Class A's - not my cup o' tea though.

Loved living there in Westbury on Trym, but got divorced & then later, made a new life here.

OK,  i had to go back a bit to see exactly what "topic"  we were supposed to stay on.

A very common problem, you can always see the oldest houses in villages and even cities are below street level.

You can never do too much "Tom Din" when building here. The more the better.

Hospitals give me the creeps. In fact there was a hospital in Romford named 'Oldchurch'. Generally known as the 'place of no return'. Spent ten weeks in there as a kid (one of the lucky ones to get out), before being sent to Dartmoor for the summer to recover.

Another matching experience from our childhoods, Owl.

I was 6 weeks in Oldchurch, spent my 7th birthday in there.  Not a fun place even for a hospital.

Perhaps we could start a topic with no actual topic and people could just share whatever is on their mind without going off topic.

From the feedback I have been getting I would be the odds on favorite.

Normally, I quite enjoy this thread when it drifts gently off-topic, then back again.

Not so much in the last few days.

I wish people would "grind their axes" elsewhere.

There was an older lady doctor there for years. No matter what you went in for she found a reason to fondle ya nuts.

Owl Log - 13-06-2021 - Sunday mid-day

Some rain. Not heavy but persistent. Have high hopes of the rice paddy water rising enough to start filling pond one; via the over-fow pipe. That would be great. It didn't happen until August last year

I'm not in a hurry to trim these eucas. Want to get on with number four farm.

When we have decent rain the area inside the wall floods. There are drains but I've never known them to carry away water in the twelve years I've been here.

Lovely rain at last.

Snack (Mrs Owl's Grandson) has gone. He was a Phitsanulok town lad and a bit boisterous for Mildred. They never hit it off.

Never mind Mildred. Won't have to put up with him again 'til next year.

I miss him already. Was with us for five days.

Put some euca cuttings into water. See if the sprout any roots.

Been in water for a week. No sign of roots yet.

Before this very recent drop of rain Pook's rice was looking not so good.

710082336_pooksfarmrice.png.acc510a43664f321ceceacd05d6bdecb.png

She done 20 grand of baht on her last venture; growing cucumbers. Just didn't have enough water to see them through.

Never got my pipes back that she borrowed.

The rain comes along and so do the weeds. They grow so quickly that they can dominate and smother the rice, in just a couple of days.

1461733530_ourrice11.png.ad5486761eff230f41b4317c9c9a087a.png

Chai has rented out our small rice patch. Only two rai. He better get weeding! It's in our interest two as our rent is a third of the harvest.

The nutters were at it yesterday. Not so much. About a tonne in that heap.

561901983_nutsagain.png.368bc4a21b5c96988e63174b3c58481f.png

It takes about 18 months to go from a spear to a bunch of nuts (oil palm fruit). Any problems along the way delay the final product; lack of rain, too much rain, lack of nutrients etc.

Nang's shop is being up-graded.

It's gonna make shopping in the village a real pleasure. Why bother with Ban Dung. Don't sell hats though.

Solved one Linux problem and another arrived. The 'pix' programme that I'd been using has been dumped. It was rubbish. Downloaded GIMP. Still learning about it, but it's much, much better. Loaded on cairo-dock. Looked good. Next reboot I lost the task-bar and cairo-dock. Don't know how to get the task-bar up; yet! Have to attach the original USB to get online. And because there is no task-bar I have to keep all the windows open; cannot minimise anything. I'll look online later to see what I can do. Or call my pal in Udon.

Back to school tomorrow. Not Tuesday as I thought. Be a shock for Mildred to have to be up at 6-30 instead of 8-00.

Mildred and her mother had a big yak-yak yesterday. M went to her Grandma's. I tried to keep out of it, but I popped along to see Mildred; see how she was doing. "Dad! Could you go and bring my telephone and the charger? I'm never going back home. Going to stay here until I'm eighteen and then I'm going to England." Mrs Owl went to see her, after an hour or so. All well that ends well. Normality once again.

Footy has started. I said in an earlier post that England had won ten on the trot. I think it's only six. Checked back on all the results and the longest winning streak is ten and the longest run undefeated is 20. I noticed also the Scotland used to thrash England regularly in the early days.

Sounds familiar! Yes, it's the mozzie sprayers on their way round. Just popped outside to see; and they are close. Get some pics soon. That stuff is a mixture of smoke and DDT, I'm informed. A lethal concoction for the mozzies; not too healthy for animals and humans too. I'll get my mask ready.

That Japanese tennis player; Osaka, withdrew from the French Open due to stress. Can get to anyone in these unprecedented times.

Only one thing left to say; bye y'all.

yes,  people generally only enjoy things drifting when it goes in the direction that they like.

i won't bother asking what "axes" you are talking about,  though i haven't a clue.
