79 weeks at No 1: Ed Sheeran named UK artist of the decade

The Official Charts Company (OCC), which compiles the UK pop charts, has named Ed Sheeran as its artist of the decade.

 

The Suffolk singer-songwriter had the most No 1s across the albums and singles chart in the 2010s, with 12.

 

His albums spent 41 weeks at the top in total, his singles 38, making a total of 79 weeks – more than any other artist.

 

No other artist meanwhile has spent more time in the Top 40 singles chart than Sheeran’s combined 572 weeks.

I don't know much about his music but I once saw this headline:

Ed Sheeran: ‘I got hammered and cracked Justin Bieber in the face with a golf club’

That is definitely a reason to like Sheeran.

 

And this song is also not too bad - at least this version.

Not my cup of tea, but I did respect that he played himself in film "Yesterday" and basically admitted his stuff is so far below Beatles as to be ludicrous.

He’s awful . His music is so bland and I can only guess he has made so much money in such a short time due to stadium concerts for the deaf and world sales as he’s not the uk top selling artist .

@OneMoreFarang Thank you for sharing that. I'm more of a Country Western listener, but love good music, period. That was good music! I really enjoyed it.

Looking at the local daily news in Suffolk, he seems to spend most of his time annoying the locals and getting into trouble with planning rules. I think it was last year he tried to get a big pool dug , saying it was for the wildlife but then it turned out to be more swimming for his mates.
