Law Council disagrees with EC move for Future Forward dissolution

The chief of the Law Council of Thailand has expressed his disagreement with the Election Commission's petition to the Constitution Court, seeking dissolution of Future Forward Party overs its leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit allegedly illegally granting loans to the party.

 

President of the council, Narinpong Chinapak, said the EC petition cites Article 72 of the organic law on political parties, which prohibits holders of political positions from receiving money, properties or any profit from illegal sources both knowingly and unknowingly. 

 

However, Narinpong said that Thanathorn’s loans are not an illegal source of money as he has made contracts according to the law.

 

He added that the EC petition did not seem to be completely transparent and tried to illogically link the loan case with Article 72.

He won't make any friends in high places with that comment, accurate as it is. Nice to see at least one person of standing though have the balls to stand up and publicly decry what is an obvious travesty.

And there was me thinking they had a real case. The junta not only don’t have to abide by the law, they get to interpret the laws too. Look at that witch and the land that she stole. In any normal democracy, politicians could only show support. They have zero right to say whether or not she will face legal action or not. That’s not up to them.

While undoubtedly true, and while more souls than you and I know why and how, it puzzles me why anyone would be surprised. Surely nobody but a fool would expect honourable behaviour from most Thais... it's not exactly a known feature of their culture... Is it?

 

Talk is one thing but they seem to draw the line at actually doing something useful.

Could be a stooge for the administration to give the appearance of a democratic process.If he was fair dinkum about his concerns he would do more than just say he dissapproves,which he might be.

Loans from the dead are perfectly normal and within the law though????

Can he counter sue the EC for false accusations?  It seems to be the way in Thailand.

What is transparent is the illogical army's fear of this gentleman.   These corrupt xenophobes in green need to go back to base.  They just keep bullying and taking, pushing tourists and business to Vietnam.  

Why doesn't someone introduce a petition to dissolve the EC???

It never had much credibility in the first place.

 

This is just a witch-hunt against a political opponent with the usual Thai double standards. The EC is not fit for purpose.

Tell me a single government department or function that *is* fit for purpose in TL. The whole management thing here is incompetent on a good day and corruptly incompetent on all other days. Prayuth's oft-stated drive against corruption is a complete fiction; the clean up needs to start with him and his mates. In my opinion.

Then they should seek employment in a factory or supermarket filling shelves.
The EC or justice system is not a place for domesticated robots.
