If the bars are empty I’m surprised that the bar girls haven’t tried selling their wares thru Grab?... :coffee1:

False.

Young Chinese and believe it or not Indian and Arab are in demand and driving up prices.

They are in heaven here compared to their countries and are willing to pay.

LOL...you're wrong. As long as humans like to f*** its gonna stay the same. As any market place it supply and demand, amended by "market elasticity" ????

No it is plainly the high prices that are hurting the bar economy. High drinks prices, high bar fine and the gal wanting more than the norm for a short amount of time. Throw in the U R not welcome to come here many times here anymore and there you have it.

Prayuth said 4 years ago that the red light image on Thailand would be changed....hence the "family resort" comments....seems to be working!

Sure? I have the feeling that we have here more bars than ever. They also increased the bar opening times some years ago and were recently discussing to increase it further until 4 in the morning to get more tourist money. And from my experience the existing closing times are not enforced much anyway.

I doubt that they do this for families.. And especially in Pattaya you can find sex and bars and noise at almost every corner. But more red light doesn't mean more tourists and even might keep many tourists away from Pattaya.

I guess if a male is old and impotent.

But most males want and desire sex and Thailand is still rated #1 by many male publications for this type of activity.

Personally, after showing a mate from abroad around the other night, it was an absolute disappointment and a rip off.  He was after company and the prices were ridiculous!  He gave up.  Truly not worth it at all.

Bar fines seem to have hiked up as well in most places as well as the other costs.  Drink prices are not cheap, even in the quiet bars.

Lady drink prices were crazy.  The girls looked bored and disinterested overall, glued to their phones mainly.

Go go bar girls are also looking large and frumpy and not that attractive for taking up that position.  Not much eye candy.  And they are usually regarded as the cream of the crop!  Some were shocking!

Overall the night was expensive just for basic drinks, totally boring too.  The high Baht has made what was already pricey before even worse.

And the news report is true that the bar demographics are not attractive to Indians and Chinese.  Go go bars, karaoke and Soapies attract high roller Chinese.  Not little side bars. Otherwise package tours with flag.holders. Indians want Bollywood style music and cheaper outlets in general.

The few high rolling expats and two week 'millionaires' prop up the place a bit.  Retirees on limited funds are being sidelined and staying home!  There is a limit to what punters will pay.  And the ceiling is being hit.  Oh well.  Will get worse.

Are you from Africa?

Because I spent a few days recently in my home country and it was 6 times the cost for similar, but really lesser service.

But far, far fewer than previously, in the internet age the pull of a sleazy open air brothel is lessening as the years go by and the prices are far, far higher than in the past. If you are interested in prostitution it's often cheaper at home.

Not when you factor in air fares etc, then Pattaya is not a very attractive sex holiday destination

Even 10 years ago you could burn through quite a lot of cash during two weeks in Pattaya. fast forward to today and for many foreigners the costs have doubled or even more because of the ridiculous strength of the baht. Combine this with the fact that Thai economics stipulate to increase prices during a downturn to make up for the loss, and the fact that many people have realised that there are other places locally which offer far better value, then it's no wonder nobody wants to go to Pattaya anymore. The place feels tired and you can encounter much better customer service in Vietnam whilst spending half as much.

When a small bottle of beer can be had in most neighbouring countries at a price of between 15 to 30 baht and here they are asking at least three times as much and some places up-to 8 times as much,  is it any wonder.... Add the fact the entertainment  side has also doubled or trebled it's prices and bar fines,  plus police stops,  assaults and bill padding... Surprised it's not 90% down. 6 or 7 drinks,  and all night company with a burger after in Philippines can be had for less than 1.500  baht,  triple that here

They must not liked you back in your home country to quote you 6 times the cost

Those Go Go Bars are a complete joke.  Drink prices other than the advertised draught beer are huge. Ok, you are paying for entertainment but come on!  Bar fine, my mate was quoted 1500 Baht, then 3000 for the lady, plus his drink bill was 300 Baht for 2 drinks.  Jesus Christ that's expensive.  That's around $240 Aussie dollars.

That's more than half my bloody month's rent!!

We walked around everywhere after.  But even the street bars were a rip off.  High rollers and poor fools - go for it!  Lucky I rarely go out.  Could have cheaper drinks at the local RSL club in Oz!  ????

Tourists are also down on Samui.  Wonder where they are all going?  Perhaps TAT can enlighten us?

The future of the night life seem to be the 7-Eleven. More and more often I see tourists sitting in front of them and having a drink.

Geeze the numbers are down in all the venues Bangkok. Chiang Mai, and Pats. Why is anyone suprised a different type of tourist has come to town and they are not hanging in the 3 greatest shrines to human kind

I'm an "older farang" and not once have I been turned down and/or overcharged. Then again I'm not fat and bald either. So.... What's your point?

This is what happens when Thai immigration runs off all the tourist and makes passports and visas so hard to get in this country and so confusing the people just say to hell with it will go somewhere else I think it’s about time Thailand straighten his act up or it’s not going to have any tourism next year and that’s the simple fact of it they can talk and tell you which the assets that but I am a Gratian is rude to tourist they think it’s a privilege to be here it’s not we come here because we like the country if they don’t want our money will take our money  elsewhere it’s a simple as that so I would suggest the visa shops get their act together and quit making it so complicated and confusing to come back and forth to Thailand to stay five or six months

A lot of bars in Pattaya are busy, but not gogo's and especially not Walking Street gogo's, they've simply priced themselves out of the market for all but the "2 week millionaires".

Farangs and Chinese not visiting courtesy of junta, wet blankets, Thailand wide.  Vietnam seems to be the the place with the right people at the right time.  Too bad, Thailand use to be great.

The busy ones are the ones selling beer at 7-11 prices and female companionship are granny’s in their 50’s

Not quite. If numbers are down by 40% you need to increase prices by 67% to get back to the same revenue - 40% of 100 = 60%. Divide the original 100 by 60% and you get ~ 1.67

We could not hardly find a room on Agoda for Karon Beach for Dec 20 - Dec 29th 3 weeks ago.  Now the Agoda page is packed with openings and some at 50% of what the price was 3 weeks ago.  Glad we waited.
