Is the escalator available in all public train stations?

Featured Replies

Hi,

AS my dad walks with a walking stick (he is 75) I wonder if the escalator is available to all stations?

WIth no escalator it will be hard for him to walk all the way up to get the train.

I really appreciate your answer as I am planning to choose an Hotel this week in Bkk for a Jan trip

thanks

Most have esculators up but Unfortunately very few have esculators down which can be harder than climbing steps up so it's steps to street level although many bts has connection to shopping malls, some have a lift to shopping mall level and he can get to street level via the mall but it's a mixed bag as some don't have lifts . That would be hard for him, I know because I'm getting a hip replacement and I avoid THE Bts

The next bts after asoke has esculators to the ground, phon phong its situated next to a great shopping mall and has many hotels in the area

Not at all of them, and lifts are not at many of them either, and walking on the footpaths , as you know is pretty hazardous in many areas

Although traffic can be a problem there is good taxi service in Bangkok at very reasonable price if you avoid those waiting for tourists (use moving cabs or GRAB).

IF you mean by trains the BTS or MRT, and not the state railway to further away, then the offical answer is: not yet all but were building. Esp older part of BTS=the central core, staretd without them and as space is often very restricted there hard to build in later. What madmen above is trying to explain is that the escalators AND the lifts do NOT start from sidewalk level, but higher up due to floodings that would ruin them completely.

But for 2 a taximeter, assuming you know how to get them to work with the meter and are not a completely ignorant 1st time tourist, cost roughly the same as 2 fares on BTS. ON MRT=metro=state, your dad can get 50% off by buying at window and these all have lifts and/or moving excalators plus the line has recently extended and now also goes under Chinatown etc-not on about any printed map yet.

But be aware it can still be walks to trains (inside and outside terminals) and most likely standing room only (don't expect much consideration to give up seat for elders from today's teens - more chance from another older person).  A taxi can normally take you point to point in seated and air conditioned comfort.
