3BB Internet

Hoping there may be an answer to this mystery as follows ,

 

I have been with TOT for 6 years and suffered many problems . The installation of fiber improved the performance but connecting outside of Thailand remained a poor service .   I decided to take up the offer from 3BB  ( 3BB recently moved to my area ) of 1 gbps . First day all ok with 950 mbps . Second day down to  50-100 mbps . Called 3BB who sent technicians . I have one laptop on wifi , one laptop on lan and one android / tv  on lan .  All my devices came up with the same results on speed tests , 50 - 100 ish download with the exception of TOT who came up with 450 mbps .   The technicians wired their own laptop into the router and got a reading of 960 mbps .  After 2 hours they left and said they would return in the new year . I do not think they knew what they were doing . Tried to say my equipment was too old , b/s as android and tv only 2 years old ,  1 laptop 4 years old and the other is getting old at 7 years . However why did I get the full download speed on the first day and lose thereafter ?  Could there be an interference from TOT who were told the contact was cancelled on the day after the 3BB installation ?   BTW 3BB installed there own fiber cable . Have numerous calls to the 3BB c/s and all promises to solve the problem but no action . Finally I told them to come and remove their equipment as I will not pay for their product and to return my initial payment . I was given all the apologies and they asked to be given the chance to mitigate and are sending a different tech on Monday 

Any help would be much appreciated .

Get someone under 80 to fix your laptop from all the viruses and plug it via lan, if it worked with the tech had 900mbps and you never got 900 then its your stuff that's bad.

Give them a fair go, I think you will find that the problem is at your end, not theirs in the end.

How do you account for the fact that I had 950 mbps on the first day on all 3 devices ?

In the real world your devices except for the laptop on LAN will come anything close to 1 Gbit/s.

And these 720 or 240 Mbit/s are still "lab values"!

 

Laptop on LAN: under best conditions you might come close to 1 Gbit/s (which is the limit of todays household technology)

And if you reach 960 Mbit/s you will have a hard time to complain.

 

And for what?

Are you aware that real speed for streaming top up at about 25 Mbit/s (0.025 GBit/s)? Nextflix 4k as an example.

Just paying for excessive access speeds to the internet provider does not automatically solve real world problems (some streaming server somewhere).

Are there really people out there that except expect every server worldwide to deliver 1 Gbit/s and for what?

I should have added: of course only for devices on LAN with proper cable and latest ethernet interfaces/drivers.

It makes no difference how new you TV is. I very much doubt you TV is capable to receive anywhere near GB speeds. Unless your laptops specs include 10/100/1000 LAN and wireless adapters, you'll only receive the speeds your adapters are rated at. If the techs laptop showed 960 mbps I would say that your issue is caused by your equipment.  I use a 3.0 USB GB adapter on my 4-year old HP Pavilion laptop to receive 3BB 400/400.

and I would accept that if it is the case , however they cannot understand or deny the fact that on the installation of the new 1 gps fiber everything worked well and was demonstrated by the techs . As I said before the 1 gbps dropped out after the TOT contract was cancelled , coincidental ?

I upgraded to 200 mbps which candidly is as much as anyone should ever need unless they are in to some serious online video gaming.  Originally they had trouble getting anywhere's close to that speed.  The installers kept calling back to 3bb who kept boosting the speed and eventually we got to 200 mbps.  At times the speed fell back but a quick call to 3bb and it was restored.  Now pretty stable.

I noticed that they do all tests to the Bangkok server.

Sometime ago my test would go to Khon Kaen server.

The underlying "OOKLA Speedtest" still selects nearest 3BB location.

 

I pay for a 100/100 plan and currently get free upgrade to 200/200.

Sometimes 300/300. Seems they balance/throttle as volume allows.

I started at 100/30, and then they changed it to 200/200, and now they doubled it.

 

I'm paying 700 Bt/month - 8% = 7,728 Bt / year.

How are you checking your speed?

The top speed will be when connected directly to them. Other terminations will vary.

My post states , I have one laptop on wifi , one laptop on lan and one android / tv  on lan . All 3 came good on the 3bb speed test and in excess of 900 mbps including my laptop on wifi  .

Same here. I have the 200/200 changed to 300/100. Tempted to go for one of the higher packages but what's the point. Won't make my app pages load any faster. My Netflix streams easily at 25 mbps. Any movie downloads are limited to 1 mbps anyway. Why would you need 500/750/1000 mbps?

My reason for moving to 3BB and a 1 GBPS speed was that my experience with TOT was unreliable and often unstable even through the fiber at 200 MBPS and connections to London and Frankfurt were sometimes down to 500 KBPS .  So going high I am hoping that there will be a more reliable serve .

 

Back to my original problem . A 3BB tecnician was at my home for 2 hours today . He was on his own laptop connected to mu router and was talking to their control centre most of the time . Speed test now shows 950 MBPS but there was a coordination problem with on screen peoples mouth movements and their speech , about 2 seconds out of sync . That was rectified after a short piece of tweaking by the tech .

this is the best place to test your internet, it has better servers and ressembles real world usage. Nothing works with 1 thread anymore, its 2019.

 

I was often getting bad results on testmynet back home with an awesome isp.

 

I've been using Dslreports for 15years i think, best site for ISP related things.

when people use mbps it means the speed advertised by isp so 70mbps is about 8.75mb/sec

 

literally no one but edgy ******* use mbps to say megs per second.

8.75mb/s is 70mbps

 

mbps/mbits is used the same way by everyone. Meg Per sec is only written as mb/s mbs MB/s, NEVER with an i.

 

just like no one uses gbits or gbps to say 1gb per sec.

 

I've been working online for 15 years, i was in tech groups before that and ive never met anyone that used anything else except a few random friendless edgelords trying to annoy other people.

UPDATE. The prefix 'm' means milli = 1000th as in millilitres. So actually mb/s and mB mean nothing.
