Mekong River levels in Nong Khai continue to drop

The level of the Mekong River in Nong Khai province has plummeted below the bank by 11.34 metres, according to the Hydrological Division of the province on Wednesday (January 15).

The division said the level was at 86 centimetres, the lowest level in the past one year with the possibility of a further decrease.

Also, the Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge’s piers can be seen clearly at this time. The bridge was located near the Hydrological Division.

The drop in water levels has revealed sand dunes in the middle of the river. This has affected boat traffic and the river’s ecosystem.

The Bureau of Research, Development and Hydrology said that the Mekong River’s level was lower than its normal level in numerous provinces, namely Chiang Rai, Loei, Nakhon Pathom, Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani.

Importantly, the organisation informed that there was a possibility that the river level would continue decreasing by around 5 to 8 centimetres per day.

they're not going up the Mekong silly   !  they'll be in the ocean and travelling around the bottom of Vietnam and China.

Imagine the thousands of tons of fish which are disappearing, the millions of lives affected and quite obviously not a single government gives a "*ç%*"%ç.
The Mekong River Commission is throning nicely near the Pakpasak-College in Vientiane burning millions of dollars for being a toothless tiger.

Pathetic and only in the years to come the irreversible damage will be noticed.

Why, on Earth, is nobody getting these mainland Chinese to reason; fill up those dams in a manageable way (and not by simply shutting off the river until the dam is full) but nobody dares to stop on those toes. Disastrous days ahead!

Baby steps, destroy the low hanging fruit first. With experience comes wisdom and a better probability of going up the Mekong.

At the moment it looks like a beach buggy would be more useful than a sub...

Damn.... I never knew the Mekong flowed into my neck-o-the-woods?

That's quite a deviation I'll have to check the latest google map.

????

Nothing to do with the 12 dams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to use solar and wind power to power all those phone chargers. Then remove these dam_, dams.

Well, since the regime will have to beg the ChiComs for more Mekong flow; perhaps they can also beg ChiComs to lower the Baht with less inflows at BoT.

Especially since the entire Mekong Delta is considered the rice granary of Vietnam;
However, this country has been at war with China for more than 2,000 years for a lot of reasons which concern them even if for a few years China has been investing massively in this country.

An additional reason for Vietnam to be dissatisfied with very dissatisfied.

A few decades ago a French political scientist wrote that the wars of the 21st century will be wars for the possession of drinking water;

here we are .:wacko:
