Thai attacked over coronavirus ‘Asian prejudice’ in London

A Thai man was attacked and poked fun at over the Covid-19 coronavirus in London, leading to Royal Thai Embassy officials taking him to hospital after he sustained a broken nose, Foreign Ministry spokesman Cherdkiat Atthakor said today (February 17).

 

The man, identified as Pawat Silamattakul, works as a tax adviser. He has already contacted London police. 

 

The assault may have come from racism and prejudice against him, an Asian.

 

While local police are investigating, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry said it appreciated Pawat’s post warning Thais and other Asians to be aware of such a situation in Britain.

 

Cherdkiat added that if anyone experiences such an incident, he/she can contact the Thai Embassy, which has officers ready to offer immediate help.

Absolute chav scumbags did this. I feel for the guy, hopefully they will get caught and no 500 baht fines please. 

 

I also feel for foreigners here who get beat down 7 on 1, even if it was for being an annoying drunk. We all make mistakes.

Much of the emboldening process underlying these unfortunate incidents takes place on social media. Speaking out against this type of thinking on social media will go a long way towards stopping this behavior in real life.

Lucky the Thai guy was in UK when he issued such a warning and can do so without persecution by the UK government.

 

Because if a foreign national had publicly done the same kind of online posting here in Thailand, well, let's just say, it likely would be a very different situation.

At least he wont have to pay the police 20,000 Baht to do something about it

Every place has its scum, this is a perfect example of British scum... I hope the Thai lad recovers well and doesn’t take a dislike to all British people as a result and understands that the actions of a very small minority do not account for the majority, much in the same way we (Foreigners) on this forum do not judge all Thai’s the same way (well, apart from a handful of love hurt cry-babies).

As soon as I saw that his 'Embassy had taken him to hospital' I knew that the story had been fabricated as that simply doesn't happen in a place like London & would need to be much more serious to happen elsewhere.

 

The story as presented has either been embellished or is complete fiction.

Quite a number of Troll posts and responses removed.

Indeed. As much as I personally have little time for racism, I have to suppress a slight frissant when a Thai finds himself (or herself) on the receiving end. The words poetic and justice spring to mind, though there is no excuse for common assault. The reality is that whatever land you hail from, the probability is that they have little time for Thais, who generally behave badly, perhaps on the assumption that they are better than all other nationalities a feature of the cradle-to-the-grave indoctrination that glorifies the Thai cukture ans belittle all else. That belief ought not to survive the incoming passport checks. I've seen how Thais are treated in USA (for example). I don't think I would like it if it were me.

 

Still, racism based on the Covid-19 virus seems a little extreme...

The Guardian report had him taking a Uber to hospital, with no mention of Thai Embassy staff. So,my guess would be embellished.

His embassy took him to hospital ???

Nah, didnt happen.

The police maybe took him there to substantiate his complaint of assault and he was visited by a representative of the embassy. Which is standard procedure in any country.

I'm calling BS on this one.

London is known as the capital of crime and 

has been for centuries.

I was attacked in 2014 so I don't go there now.

Its dangerous whatever colour you are, and

knife crime is rampant, luckily the Thai chap

was spared that problem.

Never had any problems when I have been to London, I still go there.

Maybe they just had scrap and he got hit on the nose.

 

The amount of hatred towards Thais shown in this thread is shocking. I mean the man just got racially abused, robbed, and had his nose broken, and all I see is a bunch of expats, who live in Thailand for whatever reasons, expressing their happiness that this event happened to a Thai national living abroad.

 

Some of you may have had bad experiences in Thailand, but they give you no reasons to be satisfied when an innocent man got hurt, just because he is Thai. Seriously, that's overt racism. I doubt any of you have been robbed and assaulted here because you happen to be foreigners.

 

I have seen a few posters in other threads ask if and why the attitude of Thais towards expats have changed and been less welcoming over time. You lot on here are the cause of that change.

 

What I don't understand is if you hate Thailand and Thai people so much, why do you stick around? Wouldn't it benefit both you and Thailand if you leave?
