BANGKOK, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Thailand reported three new cases of a coronavirus on Wednesday, taking total infections to 40, a health ministry official said.

Two of the new patients, all Thai nationals, had returned from vacation in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido and came into contact with the third, said Sukhum Kanchanapimai, permanent secretary at the ministry.

Patient who lied about visiting high-risk area tests positive for Covid-19

By The Nation

A patient who had visited a high-risk country for Covid-19 but kept denying it has tested positive for the new coronavirus and endangered medical staff in the hospital.

BCare Medical Centre posted a statement on its official Facebook page that it had found a patient, suspected of being infected, who had avoided the screening process after returning from the high-risk area.

On February 23, a Thai man was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia, high fever and cough. He denied he had a recent history of travelling to a high-risk country for Covid-19. Only after a doctor tested him again and he was probed, he finally admitted that he had visited a high-risk country.

On February 24, a lab test found him positive for Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for Covid-19, which has now put more than 30 hospital staff at risk.

The patient has been transferred to a government hospital.

Hospital staff who could be at risk of infection have tested negative for the virus but they are now in self-quarantine at home and will be retested after 7-14 days.

The hospital said it has done a deep cleaning of all the areas with disinfectants and denied entry to new patients there for a while.

Meanwhile, Thanachart Bank said it was closing its branch in Don Mueang district as the son of this man worked there. The son said that his father had returned from Japan along with a group tourists on February 20. The son is now in self-quarantine and the bank will carry out a thorough cleaning of its premises.

Begs belief someone could seriously not release travel history ????????‍♂️ Surely he himself would be fearing infection and be wanting to be taken more seriously! Selfishness Beyond comprehension.

Numbers about to go nova?

just the beginning of the truth.....it's all coming out now, let's see if they can keep track of the numbers because the increase will be drastic

I wonder what "high risk" country the patient visited? Thailand?

He is not alone.

I know of 3 or 4 people who travel regularly to Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia. They don't plan to stop. One lady has just self quarantined for 14 days as she has a cold.

The 65 year old man had come back from Japan with his wife but didn’t at first tell health workers his travel history when he reported sick. Their grandson, an 8 year old boy, didn’t go but he has the virus too. The son is now being tested and his workplace has been closed down. The boy who has the virus has now potentially infected 50 kids in his classroom and maybe more at his school. This is a potential super spreader.

First question any doctor or nurse should ask to a patient should always be:

“Please to not “thai” to me... have you visited a high-risk country?”

keep up the pretense i am booked on a flight out of here next month I am even giving up my rented condo have 3 months on lease left putting my gear in storage not sure if there will be flights after songkran when i am due back i guess they want to keep the lid on any epidemic till songkran is over

and the 50 kids on his class room have "potentially" infected how many people .... we should prepare for a roller coaster ride

Yes but he was in a hospital with the tell-tale symptoms and the hospital suspected that contrary to his statements he was in the 'at risk' category -- and they finally caught him.

Unbelievable story if true.

Don't worry there will be plenty more to come!

There should be a fine for not revealing his travel destination. Also he should be held accountable for the costs of quarantine for anyone involved with him. But, I will be surprised if it happens.

Very selfish!

People want to drag others with them to the grave. Welly bad, na!

How many of us here on Thai visa have been thinking about the numbers being reported as infected being very low here  in Thailand now 40

While still letting the Chinese tourists in plus people seemingly from affected  countries the vetting procedures leave a bit to be desired

While the rest of the world the virus is now increasing fast

A feckless idiot, no doubt. But more importantly, it beggars the question, does Thailand really have 'only' 40 cases? I hate to jump on the 'everything-reported-in-Thailand-is-fake' bandwagon but, in this case, I'm suspecting the count is actually higher than 40. Take this latest idiot's case for example - he would've spread the virus to countless of people before he got caught. His family. Friends. Passers by. And those who don't know they got it from him continue with their daily lives. And so on and so forth. And we only have 40 cases?

Or maybe the 40 are the ones who actually went to the hospitals, while the larger majority are sitting at home waiting to be cured by large amulets?

There will be thousands undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or waiting to be tested. Plus plenty with no or little symptoms passing it around like the 1970's Brazilian football team

Highly likely that Thais imported the virus to Hokkaido along with the Chinese tourist.

Hokkaido currently has 35 infected patients, and just now had one death reported.

Yes excellent idea throw in gaol! That teach him for being a super spreader!Maybe have a little think about the consequences of putting him in gaol.My apologies for jumping the gun of course he could be imprisoned after he recovers as I realised after posting and also being notified by another poster.

If they are holding back the truth about the actual numbers here, WHY ??

It’s not as if it reflects on the Thai people, after all it started in China !!

Or is it some “ Thai people are strong “ or “ we have taken measures to control it “ type of BS ??

I just don’t get it .

Visited my local mall just now, maybe 2% of people wearing masks and the gel that was provided at all the entrances now gone .

Thai people , everyone actually, deserve to know that the danger is still out there, it is not “ under control “ !!

Here's a crazy idea - imprison him after he's recovered (that's if he does). I assumed that's what the poster meant anyway.
