Thai police in virus announcement: Liars, people who refuse treatment or don't quarantine face 20,000 baht fine

Information on the site of the Crime Suppression Division states that people who lie about where they have been, who refuse treatment or who don't go into quarantine are breaking the law.

They can be fined 20,000 baht.

The news comes after stories of illegal workers returning from South Korea who have just resumed a normal life in Thailand.

A woman in Chiang Mai went out on the town after just getting off the plane and another on Koh Phi Phi posted pictures in similar circumstances, notes Thaivisa.

Now the Thai police have had their say.

In information and an "infographic" the force said that infectious disease regulations promulgated in 2015 means people can be fined under Sections, 31, 34, 50 and 51.

Their infographic said that not giving true details and not going into quarantine is against the law.

This relates to giving information about visiting high risk countries, information about contact with infected persons, not accepting treatment and not going into quarantine or going under observation.

Thaivisa notes that the information refers to "the public".

There was no mention of foreigners in the Sanook report about the online post from the CSD but an earlier reported suggested that foreign visitors could also be fined 20,000 baht.

Can't refuse treatment? This is the same as China, where people became afraid of going to the hospitals, because they were a plague zone and it was a death sentence.

Totally agree. I sense a new 2,000 baht fine scam for non-showing of virus testing results.

Actually healthy people in their 20s and 30s have died, and the CFR is now up to 3.4% officially. There are also 2 different strains, strain L and strain S.. one being more virulent than the other. In Italy around 50% of confirmed and reported cases require hospitalisation, but it's just the flu right?

And what if they cannot pay the fine throw them in prison which is already riddled with other diseases “ Amazing Thailand “

Would not have to do all this quarantine stuff if they stop flites to these countries that have many corona virus cases such as korea,  Italy and China but the government here wants tourist dollars

So now they will force people to go to hospitals for expensive treatment and rack up the prices.... so they are getting extra money from overpriced unneeded hospital treatment and fines.

They got this perfect.  Tourists fly in.. have to stay locked up for  weeks in a room, then fined, then sent to the hospital to fleeese more money out of them, before being packed off home.

Yeah right! What's the chance that most of them will even have 20,000baht! ???? What's the chance that most would even have 2 coins to rub together!

The Dr who whistle blew the outbreak dead in his 30's and then the hospital manager dead in his 40's. Obviously with the best care available in their own hospital. Chinese may have some dirty habits but they are not stupid enough to take the extreme measures they have and to have cost the country hundreds of billions just to combat another strain of the 'flu'.

Just a matter of time until your local IO want a medical certificate (not older than 3 Days) when you make your extensions etc.

These RTP boys have an amazing talent to turn anything into an opportunity.

One senses that the twilight of the Thai tourism boom is rapidly approaching.

20 000 THB Fine, but the covid test costs like 30 000 THB at a certain BKK hospital, that will teach them!

Like rats on a piece of cheese.

As usual, the fog of war... "could", "can be fined", "against the law", etc.

And face saving exercice as well.

But, in the real world ?

How it will work ? Who will control the "self quarantine" ? A police officer behind each "quarantined" ? Webcams ? Dogs ? Can we shoot on sight if a quarantined is going outside ?

So many questions... ????

The land of many questions...

BiB must be extatic "you pay or we throw you with the sick people".

I would be surprised if the RTP actually do have any type of laws that relate to Covid-19....and where did the Thb20K fine come from?

However, of course, people that prove positive for this illness, must be isolated and treated.

this is beyond reason for people to refuse to go for treatment. they are a risk to themselves and to the entire society. they should be given a custodial sentence without any hesitation. covid-19 is not something to take lightly.
