PHUKET:-- Beach chair and umbrella operators who have returned to Surin Beach will be fined for ignoring the ban on any trade on the sands at Surin, Chief of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration (OrBorTor) MaAnn Samran has confirmed.

Mr MaAnn said he became aware that beach chair and umbrella operators had returned to the beach last week.

"They are not allowed. No trade of any kind is allowed on the beach,” Mr MaAnn told The Phuket News today (Mar 16).

I guess they do it because the tourists want it. Not a smart move of the government to make it uncomfortable for the last remaining tourists again.

Ok ok, the words "smart" and "government" are an oxymoron...

We don't care about no stinkin' laws. We do what we want.

Not that i necessarily agree with the laws, but this is another case of Thais being stubborn...always ready to break the law because enforcement is weak.

Personally I enjoyed Surin beach when I went there back in 2015, because it kinda felt a little like America or Australia to me...a nice relatively wide sandy beach, a few waves and most importantly, no vendors. Not every beach needs vendors.

Ah, just leave them alone. Soon enough no one will be there to buy an umbrella!

And sure not every beach needs umbrella's and beachbeds, i like to lay on my towel under a (palm) tree...

MaAnn could easily send the police over to confiscate the chairs, but as we all know, it'll continue to be business as usual on the beach. He's an expert in saying one thing, and doing the opposite.

A few umbrellas is ok.. but its not ok when they are pre set already and blocking the beach for others or when beach umbrella guys scare of other people. That is the problem. If they just set up and take away when needed (but that is extra work) then it would be ok. Also not scaring away people who want to lie on the sand would be good.

Problem is these guys don't seem to learn so a total ban is the only thing that works.

Yes Thai people are above the law and the world order!!!

seize and destroy is the only way to remove them, they have been warned but as usual refuse to follow the directions given, have to hit them where it hurts, destroy all their umbrellas and beach chairs as well as fining them. Maybe then they will get the message it is not ok to do as they please when told not to, money is the only thing they understand

Wow. You are a brave person. Under a palm tree is the last place that I would lie down. Coconuts are big and heavy and have been know to kill people that they fall onto.

MaAnn extracts the max baht out of every activity.

I note that he has waited til almost the end of 'High Season' with numbers tailing off anyway, before one even factors in Corona Virus- which will probably shut things down in the next couple of days anyway.

He's made his cash for the season but can look to the Big Boys and go 'Sir, Sir- I have shut those naughty vendors down aren't I great and impotent'.

Seen to have taken the high ground whilst everyone knows he's better underground.

Maybe in Samui- Phuket coconuts are far better trained, Thanks for the input though.
