If not a money printing machine, why farangs travel 10K miles, relocate to a foreign land to open a bar?

some actually know what they are doing - most don't

I guess the ever expanding Nightwish belong to the former.

With this incredible surplus of beer bars, the fast majority more staff than customers most of the year, opening another beer bar is like flushing money down the toilet. If sex is on offer on the premises like on Soi 6, and a mamasan that can get you hot resupplies from her Amphoe in Isan, you got a chance to do better than just break even.

Two "resraurants closed yesterday in Suk Soi 4 & a massage place closed in front of our eyes

by police early this afternoon.

Nothing to do with alcohol, it is people congregating that they are trying to stop

Nothing to do with alcohol, it is people congregatingthat they are trying to stop. Night market Jomtien still has large bar area open with dj playing music and hundreds of punters drinking dancing as usual but owner has big power so maybe they not congregating just socializing...that would be different I suppose

Some 'bars' seem to be confused and think its an alcohol ban.

Do you really believe that keeping the premises free for those that want to buy coffee, food and soft drinks is a sign of confusion, more like good business sense.

The closures have nothing to do with alcohol or business sense.

Owners and licencees face jail of one year and or a 100,000 baht fine according to the article in Pattaya News section this morning. That should be enough to deter most.

They could also make it really bite by fining the customers as well. That'll get them closed.

So why did you bring alcohol up in the first place?

Only the delusional would think the closures have nothing to do with business sense, those without it will go under, in particular those employing kitchen staff and just selling beer.

Why fine customers? If a bar is open it can only be the owners fault.

Because very few, if any of those drinking in those bars will be unaware of the closure rules that have been imposed.

So in my book it's called 'aiding and abetting'.

It has nothing to do with what kind of people you hire, it's about the license. You don't need a full menu to be considered a restaurant, but you must sell food.

It doesn't matter if you know about the closure rules or not and as a "tourist" you don't have to know everything. Stop worrying about what other people do.

The business in question brought up alcohol first.

Which was my point exactly.

Wrong, your point was you thought it clever trying to ridicule the owner trying to protect the business, look closer to home for the confusion.

It's a bit annoying when the customers cannot sit down to eat for the drinkers that have lost their usual watering hole. Sensible answer - stop selling alcohol.

Your data is incorrect.

Yes it does matter , in US many towns cities are in lockdown if a place is open you know it shouldn't be you both are at fault. Some bars in Boston ,MA where I am from tried to stay open and were closed by police and told if opened again would lose thier  liscense for a year. Patrons could also be arrested for violating curfue.   If your that much of analcoholic buy at package store and go home and drink don't put others in danger.  In article below Brit guy faces 1o,ooo pound fine for not staying in home as ordered.

the web cam of Soi Buakhao shows no lights at all in the bars, no people and the audio which is usually blasting music this time of night is just sounds of scooters in the distance.

same same Hua Hin total shut down all bars and massage.
