Sure, we have to wait and see. Nobody, can be sure of anything. However, as you seem to complain. Do you rather see them doing nothing for trying to contain the spread of the virus? Or maybe you have some better ideas how to work through this?

If they had done it about a month ago, maybe it might have been semi effective but now it's a little too late.. I'm not complaining, I'm making an observation on their motives !!

So, we'll be in better shape here due to so few Chinese visitors to Thailand and a government which has been quick to react!

No mention of some Italian superstrain. Urban myth based on zero facts.

According to an Italian virologist, the main reason it took hold was due to political correctness. They were too scared to target Chinese for testing etc in case they were accused of waycism, pilloried & fired. Exactly like what happened in the UK with some child abusers, people too terrified to do anything about it.

Still this is not your country. You are not a citizen. So I advise you to return to your country which has advised you to return according to your own words. Go back home until all this situation is cleared up. Everybody have their own personal circumstances and yours are not more important for me than mine. Vice versa is also true.

Quoting you is enough effort wasted. Suggest all ignore this person.

Big difference. You are here on a tourist visa, I'm here on a retirement visa.

You Consider yourself entitled to stay in Thailand during these hard times and advise me to take a dangerous 24 hours long trip to my country. Because I am “just a tourist”. Do you consider tourists to be the second class people who should be treated worse than those who , for example, retired in Thailand? Could you explain your reasoning behind those views?

Because Trump was busy denying that the CV was going to be a problem, the U.S. didn't impose flight restrictions from China until early Feb., about 2+ weeks after the first confirmed CV cases had already traveled from China to U.S. airports.  The camel already had its nose under the tent at that point.

Public health officials have confirmed the first U.S. case of a mysterious coronavirus that has sickened hundreds of people in China, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Tuesday.

A Snohomish County, Washington State resident who was returning from China on Jan. 15 was diagnosed with the Wuhan coronavirus, according to the CDC.

“We have it totally under control,” Trump told “Squawk Box” co-host Joe Kernen in an interview from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “It’s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

...

CDC officials said they continue to believe the risk of it spreading to the American public is “low.”

In addition Italy, Spain and France are very tactile nations when it comes to greeting each other. How often do you see Thais even holding hands, certainly not in the sticks. Mind you the way the men share alcoholic drinks and cigarettes they probably have more contact than with their wives certainly now the villages are filling up.

To keep it in perspective, that's 35000 infected out of 7.5 billion.

No that is 35,000 out of 329,227,746 in USA and rising

Correction, now 47,000 and increasing

I don't know how it works here but normally the difficult part is declaring the emergency, particularly in a democracy. Once you've done that you can quickly take the measures that you'll feel necessary at the time.

I don't know if these are the same emergency measures that were used during the red shirt protests. They were existing ones put  in place by Thaksin but they may have changed since then.

The way its being done is petty normal. The issue is are they used responsibly.

According to another newspaper not to be named, measures include the ban of interprovincial travel and stricter control of (social) media. In both cases violators will be arrested and/or prosecuted.
Really "good news" for those who lost their jobs and couldn't make it back home yet.
Will be another very busy time at those big bus terminals in BKK.......

Sure they could have been doing it earlier. I also see it as too late, but I am still positive to that is going to happen. Better that it happens, then not happen at all. Also I read a lot of news, and it looks like I still can see many countries doing much worse than Thailand. Assuming the figures are not fake. As I say, nothing is sure.

FYI, I had a confirmed ticket to Taiwan on the 29th and tried to get out before midnight on the 18th when the travel ban was announced but the evening flights were canceled so it was impossible to get out on EVA, but I botched it. Should have run to the airport and gotten on any airline any flight no matter the price. I just wasn't expecting every border to shut at roughly the same moment.

How exactly do I game the system? I get to the Thai embassy abroad, apply for the visa, pay the fees and get the stamp. Do I provide the fake documents? Or the money I pay the fees with is fake?
The same way I can blame you on gaming the system. Who knows what is your real age? And do you really love your wife and not just married her to get more rights for staying in Thailand?

The not allowed to leave the province and 8pm to 6am curfews will keep the police busy !!

I'm more worried about this state of emergency to be used as a hammer to get rid of political opponents, restrict freedom of speech, etc than to be used to battle the virus.

The State of Emergency gives the PM more power to control the media (as if it was already free), and I suppose even shut down social media - dangerous indeed

You went to the Thai embassy and obtained a tourist visa. You aren't a tourist. That's gaming the system.

My age is shown on my passport, I'm here on a retirement visa. My wife plays no part in determining my visa status.

Wifey just said that Thai gov said province to province travel will be forbidden. Curfews for evening time. Delivery drivers/logistics drivers (Kerry) and post office vehicles permitted.

Anyone arriving back home between now and the 26th, 14 dats self isolation. Doctor's son from our village just arrived back. Currently in isolation in his room. Pu Yai came to check that he had a health cert and that he was abiding by the rules. Seems they are taking this quite seriously, thank godness. ????

Italy has one of the oldest populations in the world, with a median age of about 46 years old.Nearly 60% of the population is aged 40 and over, about 23% of which is over 65 — heightening the the population’s risk with regards to the novel coronavirus currently spreading through Italy....

Also, many younger & fit people only suffer fairly mild symptoms if they get it.

How many hundreds of millions would we want destitute and massive businesses gone forever?

thankyou, there's a few of us with common sense left on forum, probably soon to be banned or verboten from commenting anything but the hysterical party line per the coming big daddy details thursday
