Covid-19: Government to impose state of emergency

The sub-topic veered so very, very, very far off course from what I intended when I asked for opinions about my options. I'm not interested AT ALL in whether any of you think I'm here in a legitimate manner with my multi-entry non-O visa. Not at all. I mentioned my type of current visa status in case it mattered in regards to what people thought of my options and what you would do. Spare me your thoughts on whether you think I should be here, in general. My current status is good through 5/10. I can't apply to convert to annual extension based on retirement or marriage until $ matures which is on 4/10. Partial lockdown is happening in about 24 hours. I have no current ticket to exit the country. My default plan is to stay here. Just wondering if anyone had additional thoughts (other than whether I am a long-stayer or more a tourist at this point...spare me, please).

Please, collect your stuff and go back to your country. Don’t abuse the hospitality of the locals. You might easily be the one using the scarce hospital resources in the critical times which otherwise would have saved the Thai citizen’s life. And don’t worry about us tourists: we only game the system while you might overburden and destroy it with your presence alone. Quoting yourself: these aren’t normal times.

My country has flagged the intention to allow tourists to extend their visa, though they've been vague on the detalis. You need to do your research before making such claims. Philippines just granted amnesty to all those on tourist visa's, as some of the immigration departments have closed.

You also need to work on your myopic definition of tourist. 'Genuine' tourists can and do travel for up to a year at a time, longer if they're in self funded early retirement.

Additional thoughts are no more than trying the read the minds of the Thai officials in charge of this? Come on man. It is anyone's guess what happens the next 90 days. You should do what you think it best for you and not rely on the forum info that is all over the place, short of facts. Pretty sure the Thai authorities are giving extremely little to no thought on what to do with expats immigration status.

US Government is trying to pass a CV bill that the democrats have stalled that would get every person $3,000. If you understand the numbers, the odds are greater getting struck by lightning than this virus. To add one more thing? You hardly see anyone anywhere wearing a mask at all.

and what about PHOTO's, Id etc.. if you are not in CW, are these shops open ? NONE ...so cannot even go develop pictures around your house,  IMMIGRATION is asking... 

 

my regular bank(s) are in shopping malls and where I usually get mine, those are closed...

 

will there be a run tomorrow at immigration from people in panic ?

 

immigration might close, not able to renew / extend visa's and fines will be collected beyond your control ...

 

My visa expires 16th of April .... till 12th April everything closed, then is immigration open during cancelled SONGKRAN ?  Who knows !

I have a home made bow and arrow. Been making extra arrows today. If I could only get them to fly straight I'm sorted. Trouble is they have lots of burrs on them which gives them an erratic though entertaining trajectory. Provided any miscreants move around a lot the arrows could prove lethal bit if they stand their ground I'm in trouble.

I guess it was just a matter of time. And it is a necessary evil to flatten the curve. What is equally scary, if not more, is that the state of emergency gives Gen. Manchild sweeping powers. Apart from flashing mini-heart signs, it'll be interesting to see what he is capable (or incapable) of doing with that kind of authority.

Yeah there needs to be a lot more chilling, as long as you got Foodpanda, Netflix and rice you will pull through this. Wash your hands and follow the directions of the authorities. A question, if I understood correctly, there is gonna be a month long curfew from Thursday the 26th. What does it more exactly mean? No one can get out, not even to buy food etc? What happens if one gets out? Killed on sight? ????

A curfew is a regulation requiring people to remain indoors between specified hours, typically at night.

Other restrictions will probably apply, but essentials such as purchasing food supplies are termed essential.

This is getting off topic and would like to know what the state of emergency measures will be.  Not that I am more than impressed by some of your personal visa issues, but this topic is a lot more important to us.

I was here in Thailand when the airports were closed by demonstrators and the military had to take over. I was here, but a tourist on a holiday at that time. The rest of the world was not in crisis.  Like it or not, we have the Junta in charge again, they have done the right thing by the many in situations that were blown up by a few wealthy egos then.  I sincerely hope all of your visa issues are the least of your concerns today!  Stay safe and listen to medical practitioners that have been dealing with this or have studied it with enough education to advise.  The death of the people that catch this and die within a few days has been experienced before by the world.  That WHO, CDC and others are refraining from calling a spade a spade is beyond understanding now.  Hope to be here in a few months when this is clarified by them.

When peoples' cash is almost or is gone and their friend and relatives have none to loan, what are they going to do? Think the redshirt/yellowshirt action times 10 and aimed at the govt.

 

There is ZERO logic in justifying minor or full economic shutdown based up on what other countries are doing. (You should read what I post on some forums in my home country! I'm nice and easy here on TV). Well perhaps if an disease/infection with a massive kill ratio like say ebola or plague was rampant, but then who'd need big brother to tell them to stay isolated? People would be doing so without any govt suggestion. But THIS?!

 

I did the basic math on the stats on another thread - to date in thailand, less than .001 % chance of catching and dying from CV, less that .004% chance of catching it. Since January, 4 people died in Thailand, 4. If it was 4000 it would still be below average Influenza/Pneumonia fatality levels, and the country didn't go into lock down for that. My friend, if govt isn't careful they will have a revolution on their hands, not this month or next, but not a year out either. And as being a retired falang living here, it won't be too pleasant either.

 

Maybe my suggestion to shut down the govt is a little tiny bit in jest or an itsy-bitsy extreme - come back at me a month after we're all subject to soft martial law and almost nobody is working. You don't kill the patient so stop the disease. 4 deaths so far.

 

Re people infected and dying in the rest of the world? Do the math and the percentage isn't big at all. Go look at worldometers, there are only 6 countries that have over 500 deaths, and the denominator is over 60M population for each of those countries.

 

and for me, I'm not loosing money guy.

There won’t be anything to enforce on Thursday because they have announced nothing yet. You and I can go to the airport on Thursday and probably other days.
