Fleeing the scene of accidents in Thailand is something one reads about with great regularity

Now the Thais have taken the bad habit a step further.

One Thai man with Covid-19 has been caught after fleeing from quarantine at a hospital in southern Thailand.

The man - aged about 20 -25 - is thought to have got out of his bed in a first floor quarantine room, entered the balcony and jumped to "freedom".

Doctors doing the rounds soon notified Krabi Hospital director Dr Suphot Phukaoluan who notified the Muang district police.

Medical staff and the constabulary then mobilized in a manhunt for the escapee.

Daily News reported that they soon got a call from staff screening for coronavirus at the bus station. A man with a high temperature was trying to board a bus back to his home in Trang.

He was quickly arrested and taken back to quarantine.

(The media did not report what he was wearing, notes Thaivisa)

He had been admitted to the hospital last week after being in Koh Phi Phi. He was diagnosed with the virus and was in quarantine in the "45 Year" Building at the hospital.

The authorities said they are prosecuting the patient under the infectious disease regulations of 2015. They need to set an example to others.

People need to have a conscience and cooperate, they said.

Meanwhile Daily News reported that cases in Krabi Hospital are on the rise. There have already been six cases there and 16 more are awaiting results.

The media said that at around ten of these are expected to come back positive.

Be careful what you wish for.

Probably not as far as shooting on sight....but yes, a softer version is almost inevitable....sooner than we think

What can they do ? Put him in prison and make it worse ?

A quarantine site must be well guarded and difficult to leave, take this with more seriousness if not you can accumulate your dead in front of the burners of your temples!

It's not the flu though, it's much worse than the flu, and it's a virus for which we don't have a vaccine yet, still want him running loose? Perhaps you could accommodate him?

Can you provide any scientific data to support your claim? It's one of several corona viruses and flu viruses that make up the general "flu" that happens each year but this one doesn't seem to be affecting the young nearly as much and mostly affects the older population with secondary conditions which is remarkably similar to what the normal flu does and the numbers so far doesn't suggest it's any worse than the flu.Yes I could "accommodate" him where he would be free to come and go as he pleases.

A basic search online can answer your question:

"Death rate

The death rate from seasonal flu is typically around 0.1% in the U.S., according to The New York Times

Though the death rate for COVID-19 is unclear, most research suggests it is higher than that of the seasonal flu."

"Still, the death rate for COVID-19 appears to vary by location and an individual's age, among other factors. For instance, in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak, the death rate reached 2.9%; in other provinces of China, that rate was just 0.4%, according to the China CDC Weekly study. In addition, older adults have been hit the hardest. The death rate soars to 14.8% in those 80 and older; among those ages 70 to 79, the COVID-19 death rate in China seems to be about 8%; it’s 3.6% for those ages 60 to 69; 1.3% for 50 to 59; 0.4% for the age group 40 to 49; and just 0.2% for people ages 10 to 39. No deaths in children under 9 have been reported."

These 2 quotes from the Live Science seem to suggest that the Death Rate is unclear and that most research "suggests" that it varies a lot with Italy at 10% and Germany at 0.5% also suggest the "clear as mud" concept of the situation at the moment. When they start doing antibody tests on the population to get an indication of the more accurate data the idea that this is worse than the flu will remain "as clear as mud".

Just to add that Italy has almost exactly twice as many cases a Germany but the death rate of Germany is about one twentieth of that of Italy? That seems to suggest that the testing regimes are wildly different to me.If you only test the sick you will get a much higher death rate than if you test a sh!t load and catch a lot of the asymptomatic cases then the death rate will drop considerably.

So, whilst the final numbers are unknown, and will remain unknown for a long time/forever, let's assume that as it's got a higher hospitalisation rate, and that it's easier to contract than the flu, and the numbers are growing exponentially daily, that it's best avoided?...

No it is not a simple flu. It is a virus that inflicts pneumonia.
