Brits in Thailand wanting to return to UK should go NOW - expats urged to register with Embassy

British nationals in Thailand wanting to return to the UK should go now, the British Embassy in Bangkok has advised.

As Thailand continues to impose restrictions on travel in order to try and combat the spread of COVID-19, both internal and transit travel will be affected.

An announcement posted on the UK in Thailand Twitter account reads: From 1 April 2020 leisure travellers will not be permitted to transit Thailand. Internal travel is likely to become more difficult.

British nationals who are still in Thailand but who want to fly back to the UK are urged to register with the embassy as per the instructions below:

✉️ [email protected]

International travel is becoming more difficult with the closure of land borders and further restrictions are being introduced daily. We are working to find solutions to this.

If you need to return to the UK but can’t, you can help by sending us the info below:

Full name

Date of birth

Passport number

Contact email and telephone number

Location and nearest airport

Date of entry into Thailand

Specific needs e.g. if you are taking medication or have young children.

Each day, the Embassy also releases details of airlines that are still offering flights from Thailand to the UK.

Here is the latest flight information for 1 April 2020.

Please be aware the situation is changing rapidly and all information was correct at the time of posting.

Meanwhile, expats and any British nationals planning to remain in Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic are urged to register with the Embassy in Bangkok to receive the latest travel alerts by email.

Visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/email-signup and click on the green ‘create subscription’ button.

Finally, the Embassy also advises British nationals to carry their passport with them if travelling across Thailand in the event of being screened at a road checkpoint.

So, now you are all given an option and your government is trying to help and assist you. Then there is no need for staying and complaining over that everything get so hard and Thailand is making you jump through hoops.

Now there is a chance to get information and get help as well as register for the last plane out.

Leavin' on a jet plane , don't know when I'll be back again ...

But seriously , the Virus is everywhere already , and Thailand still seems one of the better places to stay .

In GB it's still cold , the virus is spreading more easily ...

Someone should tell this family...............

 Today :

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/coronavirus-update-bad-24-hours-in-uk-and-us-panama-comes-up-with-novel-prevention

The UK government is facing growing pressure to ramp up coronavirus testing and restrictions on movement, as Britain reported its biggest daily increase in deaths. Some 2,352 virus patients died yesterday, up 563 in a day.

PM Boris Johnson, himself having tested positive and in isolation, says testing was “massively increasing” and it was “the way through” the pandemic.

Yesterday’s announcement marked the first time the UK has reported more than 500 deaths over 24 hours from Covid-19.

Exactly...

Unless you have immediate family back in U.K that you want to be with, better off staying in Thailand.

Can't get a good fresh coconut in Sainsburys !!

Some real horror stories of the fares people are paying to get home....but best to pay them and get home because as fewer an fewer flights operate, one imagines fares are just going to get pricier and pricier!

On a crowded airplane , sitting with hundreds of other people in very close proximity , not knowing if any of them might already have covid19 I would think the risk of infection is higher than if remaining in isolation here.

I didn't mean like that, I meant thinking one country was safer than another.

Being in your home country also give a certain amount of peace of mind

I actually think it will be really bad here and the care/attitude towards foreigners will slump

Yes especially with the UK suffering 561 Covid deaths overnight One would have to think is it the fire you are jumping into.

I advised everyone who isn't an old geezer, cash only Black market criminal or Bitcoin miner (digital dumbass) to get out 3 weeks ago. ????

Having worked at an Embassy many years ago (though not in the Consular Section), I still find it unbelievable that so many people in general, and TVF members in particular, believe that the Embassy's main role is to be a mummy to everyone who is as irresponsible as possible and who IMHO, should never have left the home shores.

I can imagine the hate mail that will surely follow, but after reading the constant barrage for many years, I had to have my say.

It's like being in the army, you know that the soldiers are deeply unhappy when they stop complaining.

Statistics show far less cases in Thailand than the UK. The NHS is run ragged with hospitals flooded with Corona patients. If you know of any health workers in the UK discuss the situation with them before leaving.

No hate mail; but seems you're sitting up there in your tower passing negative comment of people that want to adventure out into the world!

And while on embassies, what a layback job all care and no responsibility, good for you............ lucky you to got to travel the world at your country's taxpayers expense.

Jesus wept, another who believes the Thai figures.

How difficult is it for people to get through their thick skulls that if you don't test then you don't find out the true figures

Thailand has only been testing about 500 per day!

Also people here are scared to death to post anything on social media as the army will be round to ship them off to the gulag

I don't believe any of those figures...

U.K doesn't test people either, plenty getting sent home with obvious symptoms and no tests done..

I'm sure every one of those countries in the table above has many more cases than reported, just not enough test kits available...

Maybe people are complaining as they need to queue for hours with reams of paperwork, pictures and maps just to get an extension of 30 days....UK border force are allowing all foreigners in the UK...including Thais to apply on line......I bet if Thais had to queue for 5 hours out in the snow or rain to extend their visas in the UK and then be asked for a 15,000 BAHT bribe or go and get more paperwork...they would moan also.
