Chiang Mai villagers go to war against virus

A Chiang Mai province subdistrict has taken the fight against Covid-19 virus into its own hands by locking down residents and setting up checkpoints to screen people entering the area.

Home to around 10,000 people, Khilek in Mae Taeng district has also gathered funds to buy materials for making face shields, disinfectants and other medical supplies to protect the community.

Anan Siriphakphokhin, Khilek’s headman, said residents were worried about the worsening Covid-19 outbreak.

“In Khilek subdistrict alone, about 30 returnees from risky areas are reportedly in self-quarantine after being laid off,” he said.

“Therefore, community leaders, the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation, Local Administrative Organisations, and the hospital in neighbouring Ban Ram Poeng decided to lockdown the community and set up screening.”

Volunteers at each checkpoint are taking the body temperature and travel histories of people entering, as well as handing them surgical masks, face shields, and hand wash gels.

“Meanwhile, another group of volunteers are spraying disinfectant around homes, temples, markets and other public areas to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus,” he said.

He added that many villages have established funds to buy materials to make face shields, disinfectants and other medical supplies, boosting the stocks received from local authorities.

Good, they are ready to prevent covid 19 outbreak. This is not a province war, this is a global war.

No doubt they will also burn anything they can find,as the virus does not like smoke.

Yep, if they do nothing, no good. If they do something ... ridicule it ????

It's all so much fun.

If only they used that same passion and drive for putting a stop to all the burning.

As long as is doesn't become vigilante style it's fine!

Well done all up in that part of Los, you should be proud and hope people acknowledge your efforts, i doubt there will be many curfew breakers around there.

Why don't the villagers all get together and do something about all the fires. The burning is more detrimental to their families health than CV19... String up the arsonists or give them a good hiding. Put them in the stocks and shame the vermin scum that they are. Paltry fines are a complete waste of time... Come on Prayut, step up to the plate...

They did this in my village too, they drive around in a pick up truck and spray disinfectant on the roads.

No harm, but probably more for their psychological benefit.

Depends if the disinfectant is a germicide i.e. no effect on viruses or anti-viral - e.g bleach or other

Interesting.

But why spray roads anyway, the odds that the virus is on the road have to be somewhat low to none.

It's a pity they are too afraid to "go to war" against the polluters that are destroying the quality of life of literally millions of innocent families in favor of multinational sino-thai agro corporations profits. ????

Good day to you sir.

They should be look out for Tom (truck driver), Dick (brick layer) and Harry (plumber). These trio are very arrogant and  they also afflicted with Dunning-Krugger syndrome as evidenced from their own countries' devastation and causing a World wide pandeminc.
