Chiang Mai province has tightened up screening for visitors by setting up checkpoints till the end of the month.

Chiang Mai Governor Charoenrit Sanguansat announced on Thursday (April 9) that the province will set up checkpoints for incoming travellers from other provinces via air, rail and road channels. “All travellers must undergo strict screening procedures stipulated by Chiang Mai Communicable Disease Committee to prevent the inter-provincial spread of Covid-19,” he said. “This measure will run from April 11 to 30.”

Travellers who skip the checkpoints will be punishable with a maximum of one year imprisonment or Bt100,000 fine, or both, for violation of the Communicable Disease Act BE 2558.

Checkpoints will be set up at the following areas:

1 Chiang Mai International Airport

2 Chiang Mai Train Station

3 2nd and 3rd Bus Terminal Stations

4 Highway No 106 (Saraphi district), 107 (Mae Ai district), 108 (Hot and Doi Tao districts), 118 (Doi Saket district), 1095 (Mae Taeng district) and 11 (Muang district).

Jeez man, stick to the point of this thread which is about Chiang Mai checkpoints for checking Covid-19, yes?
There are numerous other threads about burning, pollution, smog etc. where you can make your rather pointless remarks.

how can you one skip a checkpoint? maybe when those manning it are sleeping or on their phones?

They have put checkpoints on 4 highways.  If you can get out of your box and get off the highways you will discover small rural roads that will get you around all the checkpoints and even provide an interesting senic trip.  But if you use those roads you may be subject to the mentioned 100,000 baht fine so watch your back.

Jeez man, I was merely trying to point out that the governor is apparently springing into action now to curb Covid-19, while for years he has done absolutely nothing to stop the ever increasing burning in his province every winter, which is possibly a much bigger health risk than Covid-19. Maybe you think it's pointless to point that out, but I'm quite sure many people who live in Chiang Mai Province and suffer from all kinds of respiratory diseases because of all the burning would strongly disagree with you.

So, will all foreigners stopped at these highway checkpoints who have come from adjacent provinces be arrested and tossed into forced quarantine for being a suspected Covid-19 carriers by virtue of being a foreigner of European decent, i.e., a non-Thai?

If a foreigner crosses one of those roadblocks and reads this, please let me and others know how that went for you.  Many of us who have doctors and dentists in Chiang Mai would probably like to know if we can keep appointments without risking being throw into jail or some internment camp.
