How would you know Poss, you have never had a glass of anything to know....????.......????

My family were all drinkers, two of my brothers died young, they were heavy drinkers, my wife in the UK was a problem drinker, I have played with bands all my adult life, I have seen what heavy drinking did there. Just because I never started does not mean I know nothing about it.

I stand by what I say, if someone cannot go a day without alcohol, then they have a problem.

It is not up to anyone else to tell other people how to run their lives, nor is it up to other people to pass judgement on other people just because they don't live their lives as you do. It's called freedom of choice, some people may not want to drink every day, but it is nice to have that choice if they so wish to.

I am not saying when people should drink or when they shouldn't, that is up to them, as long as the don't cause me any problems.

You misunderstand, if you have never had a glass or two you will not know the minor "buzz".

Being around alchies is totally different.

The vast majority of our planet like the minor "buzz" from a glass or two, <snip>

There are countries where a glass of something goes with ever meal, I enjoyed that in Italy.

Jesus turned water into wine, so I have been told, but don't think he was an alchy or even a bad boy....????...PS. I am not religious.....????

Again it's down to freedom of choice, nobody gets more hostile than me if I'm in close proximity of a drunk, that said I chose my watering holes wisely and such occurences are very rare. I may have one beer, or at the most two beers a night and then a nightcap, but why should anyone be deprived of the simple pleasures of life because of just a few irresponsible nitwits.

The ban on alcohol untill the 30th of this month makes no rhyme or reason, it was supposed to be just enough to cover the period of Songkran, but to have a 3 week ban here in Chonburi defies all logic.

The ban is nationwide = 77 provinces, but the dates differ.

I've heard if you are caught transporting liquor from an "alcohol OK" area into an "alcohol banned" area, you face heavy fines, possible jail time, and you will be forced to listen to 4 hours of PM videos.

It's totally OK for you not to drink at all. Relax, nobody is threatening your rights.

It's also totally OK for people to drink in moderation, or to get staggeringly drunk in their own homes.  This is not a question of logic or morality, but one of personal choice.

What is not OK is for others to dictate what I choose to consume as long as I don't harm others in the act.

I'll take this opportunity to again remind people that it is exceedingly easy to use any of a large variety of fruits in Thailand to brew your own brandy. A glass jar and a few days is all it takes. Yeast will do the rest. May the gods bless their tiny besotted souls.

Incidentally, a wide variety of animals, including many insects are drawn to consume rotting fruit. Many monkies get noticeably drunk on such finds. Why is that do you suppose?

It's safe to assume this to be acceptable behavior in the animal community at large, maybe even essential. Or perhaps they are simply more tolerant creatures than man.

Actually, in these of threads, it's not OK to be a non-drinker. Miserable drunks prefer the company of other miserable drunks.

It's perfectly OK for the Chonburi governor to take away your right to buy alcohol in a state of emergency. That's really the subject here. I'm sure most drunks have stocked up and will be OK for a month or two.

The problem is not old and miserable expats who imbibe in the comfort of their home. What's not OK is for immature young Thai people to have parties and form groups. Most people know that young people and alcohol don't go well together, especially in a party town like Pattaya.

Just found this from khaosod, it is a list of all the provinces with the dates of the ban. What I'm not sure of is Chonburi where it states alcohol is banned untill the 30th, however it does mention sales allowed between the hours mentioned. Indeed! no warning - they just banned it, doesn't particularly bother me, but they could have at least told people, though I guess when you have a prison population you have no need to be pleasant with them!

No need. There are enough DHs around here.

And I am sure you have a cupboard full for your own use.

That cupboard was emptied by some greasy fingers already. They left their govt issued <deleted> behind too. You want it back?

A completely non sensical response.  Isn't it miserable enough this songkran?

The governor of Samat Prakan has just extended the alcohol ban to the 30th of Apr, expect other provinces that have a short ban to follow says Richard Barrow.

Seems that Chumphon is still open for trade. That's OK, only 35 klicks for some booze. I've stocked up on Sang Som but if I need to get some more beer, I'm sure the lady running the shop will be happy to see me. She was all smiles last time I stocked up, saying she have never sold so much booze in such a short time....

I just hope that suppliers don't run out of stock! 555555
