Amazing Thailand: "Bunrot the Indestructible" refuses to die after multiple shootings - now she gets a reprieve

Trang local Somporn Najin thought the perfect food for his daughter's wedding feast would be a cow.

 

So he bought a one year old calf from a guy called Khong for 8,000 baht. The calf was called Bunrot (a combination of words meaning to make merit and survival).

 

But despite the help of ten of his buddies it proved harder to slaughter the beast than he imagined. 

 

First of all they took some potshots at the creature's head with a .22 air rifle. 

 

Incredibly the projectiles just seemed to bounce off or get embedded under the skin. 

 

Undeterred they started shooting at it elsewhere on the body but that was no use either. Bunrot refused to die. 

 

So a powerful shotgun was brought in. Bunrot was thrown back against a barbed wire fence and everyone thought - lunch!

 

But to the amazement of all present the calf later got up and toddled off disappearing into the countryside of Ban Huay Wa in the southern Thai province of Trang. 

 

"Yai Tui", a 50 year old phu yai ban from a neighboring village said if he hadn't seen all this with his own eyes he never would have given it credence.

In all his 20 years as a PYB he had never heard the like of it. 

 

After 15 days Bunrot came back and a vet was called to shoot it with tranquilizer darts.

 

These also just bounced off and had no effect whatsoever.

 

Now the plucky beast has been given a reprieve. A local fortune teller said it would be a sin to kill Bunrot who is clearly mystical. She should be kept for breeding. 

 

Owner Somporn agrees and now he wouldn't sell his "miracle calf" for anything.

The power of an air gun cannot be compared to the power of a firearm which uses powder burning as the power source. A  0.22 cal is suitable for animals like rabbits, squirrels, or skunks.

I vaguely remember back in the UK they use a stun gun and they used to use something which fired a bolt of some sort which worked well.

 

But a .22 air rifle on a cow? I don't even think that a .22 shell gun would work especially if they fired it inti th head of the cow.

 

Years ago the people who used to work for us bought a live pig of about 100kg and IIRC they killed it by cutting its throat with a big and very sharp knife or perhaps a parang.

Apparently, you aren't aware that a ".22" just defines the diameter of the barrel and air rifles do come in that caliber as do firearms.  .22bb, .22short, .22lr, .22 mag, .22 hornet,  .223 rem are just some off the top of my head.

 

And yes, a .22lr bullet can and is often used to dispatch cattle and game.  It is plenty for the task.

Agreed, a .22 short/long rimfire is quite capable of dispatching a large animal, as long as it's done at point blank range and in the correct place.

A .22 air gun was just plain rediculous and they should be prosecuted for trying to do so on grounds of cruelty.

As for a shot gun, depending on bore/shot size where did they try to aim... it's backside?

Lets not forget the odd human or 2 that have met their end by a 22 cal head shot
