Optional caddy?  The caddies are the ones who NEED the golf courses open, not wealthy farang.   Plz get your priorities straight in these difficult times.

I tracked it down. It's the Sports Authority of Thailand. Even their own Facebook page only uses the abbreviation, but their cover photo has a photo of the sign in front of their building with it spel

A couple of the high-end Pattaya courses are already advertising being open from May 1st. Chee Chan seem to think that "only" 3200 bt will have them rushing back ????????????????????????????

In Chiang Mai probably ,maybe, possibly May 3rd, but not sure.

That is my understanding of the national guidelines announced today, 30 April, Individual provinces may be more strict, so see what the governor says.

Lots of other businesses are also being provided some slack, but again governors can be less liberal.

My understanding is Gymkhana will re-open with a restriction of players to a four-ball. The Japanese and Koreans have been getting away with their 6 and 8 ball s##t for far too long.

In Chiang Rai, the airport course 9 - holer has always been open, played it today. Santiburi and Happy City open. Mae Kok closed.

A 4 ball means 8 people on the green not exactly social distancing

Looks like the latest dumb requirement is that foreigners have to show their passports!

Not actually “dumb” at all if you take a moment to think about it aside from your comment being an oversimplification of one aspect of the disease tracking strategy being employed.

Apart from the fact that staff would not be able to understand it and that all foreigners have been basically banned for entry to and travel within Thailand for quite some time now.

"Foreign passport holders must have an entry stamp to show that they have resided in Thailand for the past 14 days."

As for tracking, a sign in book at the course with date, name and telephone number does the trick.

At Mae Jo Golf caddies must now wear masks and visors and despite the comment above there is no need for 8 people to be on the green. Far better to have fewer. With a little common sense surely it shouldnt be to difficult to maintain 2m distrancing while putting out?

So golf can be played safely, yes.

Sand Creek is basic for sure but while ranges are closed it offers good exercise and practice. Greens arent perfect, so play more gimmies.

Of course if anyone wants to find reasons not to play - or to play  and be miserable about it, those options exist too. Or they can play and enjoy uncrowded couses while these strange covid conditions persist.

And of course many caddies are very short of income just now as was pointed out above. While you might have expected that very very wealthy course owners,  may have helped their caddies through this time, that has not always happened......

Talk us through how you do 2 metre social distancing with caddies on the green incl while reading green? Plus the other 3 players and 3 caddies, do you ask them to move away or off the green?

yes

Do you think that they might not actually do it to the letter of the law? Just get on with their game of golf despite the risks.

Doubt if the players would be wearing masks either, 40C and high humidity would make it almost impossible to play especially for seniors.

That said, 2- 3 players maximum should be the rule. Already seen a group of 5 which is ridiculous and they were Farang.

I figured you would be smart enough to work it out without written instructions. if not then i am sure the courses and caddies will help you.

Doing anything in the open air is a recipe for total health. Beware!

The chances of you catching anything out in the open playing golf is practically nil, spacing or not. And anyway, a caddie isn't in your "bubble" unless you want to get fresh with her.

Not really sure why courses were closed in the first place, really.

Btw, anyone have a recent to a few years' old driver and 3-wood for sale cheaply? PM me.

Just play golf...50 odd people have died in thailand....not even a statistic

now open up the damn swimming pools...
